bassist_lewis Posted May 26 Share Posted May 26 I has fully checked out of 3 Leaf as the scalping and futile attempts at buying anything had really put me off (I have 4/5 of his pedals from the last 10 years anyway). I only remembered about it at about 6pm but thought I'd check it out anyway. I just kept clicking on buttons and suddenly I had one in my basket and was filling out my address. Think the last 3Leaf product I ordered from the US was an original Doom from a music store for $179, and that shop marked it down for customs too. I can conceivably understand why the octabvre and photon are as tjose are more specialist items, but isn't this just a distortion pedal? What makes it special? admiralchew Posted May 27 Share Posted May 27 The Doom 2 is my favourite pedal and I’ve had one on my board since I first got one. It’s a fantastic synth fuzz, although it took me some getting my head around when I first got it as I was used mainly to Muff-style fuzzes. A lot of time and effort has gone into the design, not just of the circuit but of the enclosure too. It’s a custom enclosure and the printing is fantastically well done. It doesn’t hurt that it sounds great too though. I didnt realise it was considered a "synth fuzz". I thought it was just straight overdrive/distortion. It does sound great. I do agree on that Zac guy's demos. He's the best. The original has been a staple on Paul Turner’s board for the last couple of years. He recently switched to the Doom 2. He’s spoken about using the Doom 1 on some Jamiroquai songs and with his own band Trioniq. Both great examples of the Doom used subtly within a mix by itself and paired with an enveloped filter. You missed off artificial scarcity I don't begrudge success, but as a businessman I don't like how he operates, ever since Darkglass Gate. admiralchew Posted May 27 Share Posted May 27 There has been a lot of interest in 3 Leaf pedals and I feel for any pedal manufacturer whose had or is having a moment where there is pressure on them to produce. 3 Leaf, Iron Ether, Cog, Malaise Forever and others have all written about how testing it is to be a maker. I know Spencer in particular considers his pedals art rather than a commodity so being told he’s doing supply and demand wrong must really have grated given his commitment to putting out the best pedal he can. The No Gods No Master Volume podcast which interviews pedal makers gives a really good insight to the pressures these guys face just so we can have boutique pedals. I highly rate 3 Leaf pedals and I’m glad they are being regularly released again. Too many good manufacturers have stopped over the last couple of years (SSBS, Dwarfcraft, Earthbound Audio) and I’m glad 3 Leaf wasn’t added to the list. 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
