Im modifying mine on an ongoing basis to work better. As a 'turnkey' bass the Jack Casady is a better option. It is nice to have a 34" hollow bass, however. Especially one with a normal bridge! There are some good tones in this bass. The bridge pickup has the same poke as a Rickenbacker bridge pickup. The neck pickup is all spongy low-end but not too muddy.

Took both my USA Lakies for a swing last weekend with my ABBA tribute. Still can't get over how incredible these two basses are.

Thanks! I bought it a few years ago from Andy Baxter's, just after Scott Devine was there and was very impressed with it. I didn't know that when I bought it, though, but he was right. It's possibly the best Jazz I've ever owned (or even played?). Better than the Celinder Skarbee bass I had.

What do all the knobs do?

Volume (pull up for passive) and pan with three way selector on the top row.

 

Bass/Mid/Treble bottom row

 

Three way gives front/dual/rear coils on the humbucker

 

Edit: there are also dip switches on the preamp for pre-selecting the mids frequency.

Lakland's own LH3 pickups. Says they are hand wound in their Chicago facility.
