None left now though, the Quad Cortex model is perfectly good enough for me Quote

My gut says that I prefer the OC-2 as that’s just what I tend to grab if I need an octave. I should also add that I have a few OC-2’s and my favourite is an ‘83 Octaver. So they do vary a bit. NoirBass Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) OC-2 Comparison.mp3 Ok, so I've plugged in The OC-5, followed by an '85 'Octave' OC-2 and then an '83 "Octaver' OC-2. All are soloed on the -1 octave (OC-5 in vintage setting on Bass mode) All three are individually powered by a Boss RPW-7 to make sure they all have the correct voltage hitting them. I'm using an MIJ '57 Reissue P bass with worn in flats, tone on full, straight out of the DI of an Ampeg PF800 pre EQ into Logic no processing. Playing around the sweet spot of 7th to 12th fret for the little riff in the demo. I can't feel or perceive any latency from the OC-5, what I can hear is that they all sound a bit different and the OC-5 is much louder due to a better noise floor. pantherairsoft Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Doesn't that era (early/mid 80's) need the ACA power supply? So 12v power supply (or a 9v battery)? I ran one on 9v for years thinking that was right, but then found out it was an ACA version... and swapping the supply gave me tons more volume and headroom. Just checking as the RPW-7 won't power the ACA demanding ones properly. I used to have an ACA and PSA version at the same time and difference between them at 9v was a bit like the OC2 were vs the OC5 in your clip. That said, the OC5 absolutely has a touch more volume output than the OC2. I also have an ACA MIT OC-2, that has been modded with the -2 Oct disconnected. Doing this gives loads more headroom to the circuit and raises the volume to pretty much the same level as my OC5, which is nice. Quote
NoirBass Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) You could well be correct, but my understanding is that as long as it’s daisy chained (as the RPW-7 is internally) it will work correctly: Powering Options ACA 12V DC Adapter: Use a dedicated 12V DC (center-negative) adapter or a power supply with a selectable 12V output. Battery: A 9V battery will provide the correct 9V internally, bypassing the voltage-dropping components. Daisy Chain (with a PSA pedal): If connected in a daisy chain with at least one standard 9V PSA pedal, the ACA pedal's internal resistor/diode circuit is bypassed, allowing it to run correctly on 9V When powering ACA Boss pedals I’m always lead by the brightness of the LED. Setting them up as I did in this test gives full bright LED’s so I’m assuming they are working correctly. That said I do have a 12V Boss ACA PSU and I’ll A/B and update. pantherairsoft Posted January 9 Posted January 9 You may well be spot on. I assumed you’d taken one output from the supply per pedal, as opposed to actually daisy chaining them to each other with a single daisy chain (and I still can’t get my head around why that works on the ACA pedals!!!). Quote

AndyTheBassBison Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I’ve just discovered this thread and thought I’d weigh in as I’ve owned an OC2, OC3 and OC5 briefly at the same time! Only the OC5 remains. I couldn’t find a difference in sound between the 2 and 5’s -1 setting apart from a volume difference and better tracking in the 5. I didn’t rate the 3 at all. I also use an EBS OctaBass which tracks terribly but has a great synthy sound and an MXR bass octave deluxe which does the oc2 thing well with an added bonus of being able to blend a modern octaver sound it to give it girth. I’ve tried the Aguilar which I didn’t think has a good sound or tracks well at all. I have a bit of an octaver addiction haha… 1 Quote
