Promo video

We recently compiled a "homemade" promo video

I have uploaded a low res copy to the website but on my low performing broadband it seems to take too long to upload

Please have a look and let me know how it loads and what you think

Many thanks

While I don't personally have a problem with QuickTime (being a Mac user) you should use a format that the majority of users can view without needing to download extra players codecs etc.

Having said that I'd upload to YouTube and then link that back to your site. If your uploaded source footage is good enough you can even link back a higher quality stream that the standard YouTube one. Although YouTube uses Flash to play the videos everyone interested in viewing video will already have all the components needed to view it already installed, something that can't be said for .mov .wmv or many of the .avi codecs.

+1 for Youtube plus imbed it onto your website.
If you write the blurb well with your keywords and use good tags and a full link back to your site you'll draw people in from there too.
Then it gives you another route into your site from cross references and also some extra Google paths to your site.

EDIT: 5 minutes and still no playing video ... :)

Sorry, I gave up too, after waiting much longer than I would ever normally do.

We've gone the youtube route: http://www.redjackson.com/video.php
and I've also used photobucket in the past.

I had a quick look at your source code, and although I've got a pretty good understanding of html/xhtml, I couldn't see the code that links to the video... was it loaded with javascript (I don't know js)?

Cheers, Teej

You should have a link back from your youtube "more info" text section to here:
http://www.redjackson.com
Use the whole address, with the http:// , and youtube will hotlink it, otherwise it just treats it like text and will need cutting and pasting.

Sorry OG, I'm sure you're right, but I'm struggling to understand what you mean here...

You mean on the original youTube pages? They're on the venues' account, not mine, so I don't think I can do what you're suggesting.

And I'm not clear what exactly this would do... are you telling me that the vids aren't loading on your os/browser combination?

Teej :)

You've got it in one... I think OG is under the impression that you uploaded the vid to YouTube yourself.

Oh sorry, I assumed you had done that. I didn't notice it was the venue's videos.
If you do upload stuff you can then edit the description text. That's where you want a hot link.
It just makes it easier for people who watch your vid to go straight to your website.

I guess you could suggest to the venue video person that they add in a link to their website at
http://www.shorethingacoustic.co.uk/ and yours as well (and the other artisist they have videos for) it makes commercial sence all round

It was quite hard to find the Shore Thing Acoustic website so they could probably do with the links :)
