Afternoon, I wonder if anyone can help me. I can't find a bottom E flatwound  that has a small enough ball end to slot into the tailpiece.I know I could get it widened to take one, but I don't want to mess with it, I just love basses that haven't been tampered with. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to string make (i'm looking to put a 100 gauge on) or is there anyone out there who is such an expert they would know what brand and gauge the originals were?

Can you just squeeze the ball end in a vice?

Made my eyes water just reading that.

I had this with a bass once, forget which, and I ran the string through a washer at the back of the bridge.  Wasn't pretty but it worked.
