First fretless

My wife got me an Ibanez for Christmas last year. It’s there bottom of the range Gio model so I didn’t expect a great deal but I am amazed by how good it is. Fit isn’t the standard of the better models but it sounds great. I put some flats on and I love it.

Thanks for your quick reply....

Do you think the HB's are decent? What would your preference be between HB's and VMJ?

I was impressed with the Harley b I bought for my lad. The VMJ’s are lovely for the money though

In truth, if it's your first-ever fretless then it doesn't matter much what you buy so long as it's cheap. At best, it's a 50/50 whether or not you like it enough to keep playing fretless.

I certainly wouldn't think in terms of messing about with a decent fretted bass.

A very quick eBay search turned up:

Any of those three will be enough to get you started, and if you decide that fretless is not for you then you won't take a bath on the resale value.

I recently picked up the Squier VM P-bass which is stunning. It's lined which I'm on the fence about but the build quality is exceptional. I owned a couple of high end Squiers in the past, which were my only basses for about 3yrs and this one is equally brilliant. Tonally, feel, weight etc - I can't fault it.
