Jimothey Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 (edited) Now my other build has come to a bit of a stand still waiting for parts I thought Iād change the body on my unbranded P Bass which to be honest the body is not in that greatĀ condition IāmĀ going to use all the hardware off the p bass and transplant it into theĀ new body Heres what Iāve got in mind....... Is it a single cut or is it a modified Thunderbird shape? I donāt really know I just thought it might look goodĀ (The neck pocket is going to look slightly different to the pic) Havenāt decided what wood Iām going to make it out of Iāll have a hunt round and see what I can get.......... TheGreek Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 In the past 60 years luthiers and guitar designers have explored virtually every shape possible. It's going to be really difficult to be completely original. When Andy and I designed my Psilos Bass we tried to be completely original but inevitably we would use other basses as points of reference, "like the lower horn from.." . I wouldn't be worried if people see similarities or influences from other Basses. If you're happy that's what's going to matter. 1 Quote

Jimothey Posted May 7, 2018 Author Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) Iām going away from the shape pictured aboveĀ and going more for a traditional single cut shape with offset waist (heavily influenced by a stunning ACG recurve S type)Ā Iām now thinking probably pine core with Walnut burr,Ā Zebrano or Macassar EbonyĀ veneer front and back for a nice contrast Iāll do a mock-up later to see how it looks...... BrunoBass Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Before you veer away too far from the RD type shape, and knowing how you like orange basses, check out this beauty from the Czech Republic. Itās a Jolana Disco Bass and I canāt deny I tookĀ a little bit of inspiration from this š 1 Quote

Sounds great š Iām not entirely sure on the next build, Iāve got loads of ideas! First thing for me is to modify my recently arrived Harley Benton PB-50, but thatās fairly simple stuff and probably doesnāt constitute a build as such. Quote
Jimothey Posted May 7, 2018 Author Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) Hereās the revised shapeĀ Iām not entirely sure how the bolt on neck will work but Iām sure Iāll figure something outĀ Just in case I doesnāt work out hereās another versionĀ Edited May 11, 2018 by Jimothey 1 Quote
Jimothey Posted May 14, 2018 Author Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) Just a quick mock up....... IāveĀ decided itās definitely going to be a walnut burr top and back with matching headstock andĀ a pine core for contrast...... Edited May 14, 2018 by Jimothey Quote

Im just looking at fretboards at the mo im thinking a Maple one so itās all not too dark and because the body and neck is predominantly going to be Sapele Iām going to try and get maybe Oak burr or a light coloured veneer like the Macassar Ebony I keep looking at??
