BigRedX
Probably a Bartell. Can't find any links for info pictures etc. other than a certain German eBayer who doesn't deserve the publicity.
Happy Jack
Well the vendor actually suggests Hohner rather than Hofner, but I'll just confirm that it's definitely NOT a Hofner. Mosrite? No chance. Don't know much about Hohners so I suppose it's a possibility. What it really reminds me of is a Klira I used to have which was closely modelled on a Guild. But I can't imagine either Klira or Guild using that method of neck attachment.

Happy Jack
Aaargh! Not Guild!!! I meant Gretsch. Sorry for any confusion.
budget bassist
I have no idea what that is, but i do know that it's one of the ugliest pieces of crap i've ever laid my eyes on (IMHO of course )
Bassassin
Well I quite like it. It's in some ways quite contemporary-looking for an oldie. As far as Hohner or Mosrite are concerned, I get the impression he just thought of two random brands. I don't think Hohner have ever actually made guitars themselves anyway. The Schaller tuners look original to this (can't see any other screwholes) which would suggest it's probably mid-70s at the earliest. Wonder if it's a one-off? Jon. BigRedX
Here we go Check the Barth/Bartell/Hohner section... Might be a Hohner after all?

Looks like the bass might originally have been a Hohner rebrand, but built by Bartell. Also very interesting to see that Matsumoku built a JapCrap Black Widow bass too - I'm guessing they never made it over to the U of K though. Jon. mathewsanchez
I love it, and the cushion on the back just sweetens the deal. Wouldn't pay more than £100 for it though.
SJA
someone on Talkbass has a hollowbody just like that with Hohner on the headstock- http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=316274 Edited November 19, 2008 by SJA
BigRedX
I've been interested in the Black Widow basses for a while now. There's something about their semi-acoustic shape that appeals to me. Just waiting for the right one to come along... Unfortunately not this one with it's 'natural' finish.
