ORANGE TB500 help please

Recommended Posts

Had this amp a couple of years. Used minimally. Recently sold it to a friend and he used it a couple of times and told me it now doesn't work. He's not trying it on, it really doesn't.

The orange light turns on and the fan seems to be working. There's just no sound coming out. I've tried several cabs, same with all.

Did a wee bit of research and figured I'd switch the valves out and see if maybe they'd died or had become faulty. Bought some new uns from the lovely folk at Watford valves and they glow and seem fine. NB the previous/original ones glowed too.

Im a total leyman at this. Any ideas??

Also, are you testing using the same Speakon each time?

A cable that hasn't properly"twisted home" and locked has caused me hours of aggravation in the past.

Do you hear any slight hiss at all from the amp, or a click when it turns on?

Has he used the send or the return, in case one of them has broken or something.

If you take the output from the send to the input of some other amplifier, or a mixer or something you can hear, you can tell if the preamp is working, just to work out which bit is not working (this would also work with the balanced out).

I have a mate whose TB500 went the same way and I think he'd just given up with it and it was heading to landfill. Quick message sent.
