Lowdown you just hit one big button for me. I absolutely adore this, Just Like i do Norman Brown, Of course George benson and Earl Klugh. Imo the best Jazz guitarist in the world today. Norman Brown stripped down to his bare bones playing off the cuff over his track Lydian. Incredible improvisation.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArNNsdDQEaY Edited July 16, 2018 by Dad3353

lowdown
Its a fantastic EWF cover though. Check out this cover of 'After The Love Has Gone'... Never heard of this singer before (Brian Mcknight). David Foster on Piano, Nate East on Bass, John Robinson on kit. Really nice singing and a Heavyweight band. Yank
Some of these examples seem to me to be more Jazz Fusion than Jazz Funk. Labels of genres can be kind of foggy. For something maybe more Funk leaning, the band Galactic which is in the Meters, New Orleans Funk Jazz grey area. Stanton Moore is a great drummer. A bit foggy, but at the end of the day, most of them seem to be 'happening', with some serious rhythm sections and top line players, not to mention great pocket playing. So, that will do for me... I suppose for me, I tend to like tunes and changes, rather than humping about on a couple of chords. Not to say. I don't like listening to the likes of the Meters etc, I do, very much. There have been some tracks posted I have enjoyed and not heard before. So, not really going to turn my nose up at a bit of music genre bending. Funk, Latin, even a Middle Eastern Hip Hop vibe at times Is it the Bassist that is the only one left from the original line up? I've always found them a bit hit and miss due to the varied styles but I really enjoyed their last album. Very funky bass playing with a vintage Hofner Violin bass though. Actually on that point, also saw Stefan Redtenbacher with a Hofner violin and he gets pretty funky...not the most obvious choice of bass for this style but it seems to work. Yes, I remember seeing him with one. It might have been at the 606 club. Edited July 16, 2018 by Dad3353
