Computer cupboards that can store music keyboard , pair of studio monitors etc.. Where to go, and how much?

Recommended Posts

Looking for the above . Something that can either be used in the bedroom or living room. Obviously, it would hold my Mac mini /monitor(or TV ) computer keyboard..
Would like something to give me incentive to start recording again, and want to start getting my act together and tidying up.
Would like so me thing that has everything in place when I open the door;)
Anyone have any ideas?
Please advise
Cheers ;)

Not sure why you want a cupboard?
Why not just get a (DAW) desk?

Personally I just went to IKEA with some measurements,
and got a couple of mix and match units.
There are purpose built DAW units but tend to be expensive.

You first need to check out how much space you have,
and the ideal spot in your room for monitoring, convenience etc.

To get some ideas I just went to few DAW forums and looked at their
Home Studio (porn) threads.
Good place to start is the Basschats Home Studio thread,

I just used google images for inspiration until I saw something that looked how I wanted.

eBay is maybe your friend for buying stuff, you possibly need to be patient, but you'd be amazed what you can get things for, especially when they're collection only.

My desk came from eBay for 99p, it was collection only from 2 miles up the road. My rather nice, and originally rather expensive Ultimate support monitor stands cost me £20, again collection only from eBay, though this time a little further away at 10 miles :) .

I hate seeing cables draped everywhere, so I bought some cable tidy stuff for a few pounds from Amazon.

The acoustic foam tiles, maybe now in the wrong place since I moved some stuff around cost about £10. I had my dad make a frame that was filled with leftover rock wool, and the tiles were stuck to the front.

Whole cost, furniture wise - about £40.

:)

Thanks ;) basically, I'm using a corner desk , which is rather small for my requirements .
Was thinking of a long white desk , about 6' long .
Then I thought that a cupboard may be tidier .

Work top cut off maybe ?

Under desk pedestal drawers can be bought quite cheaply from eBay or Gumtree.

There you go....
Just a matter of bumping up the thread.
Plenty of folks will be along to help out with ideas.
Your vision will start to come together...lol....

This is mine, not ideal but I'm reasonably happy with it, baring in mind I only have 1 room :).

I have my keyboard on a stand at the side of me when I'm working on stuff. I have an armchair against the wall facing it, and tend to sit in listening over things on repeat.

Seriously though, decide how you want it, and then use eBay and Gumtree to source things.

IKEA used to be the go to place for desks to modify to make a studio desk, as you can swap parts in and out and mod them easily.

i used to have a massive corner desk, when i decided what i needed ideally, i took measurements then went to ebay.. got mine for 26 quid :)

Yeah, it's an M-Audio, not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination, the action feels really awful, but it does the job.

I know what you mean about driving, I have to rely on my dad !

I was just browsing the Ikea site after reading this thread and this one looked interesting:

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50219044/

Nice wide keyboard area, enough space for two monitors, bookshelf speaker stands. You may be able to push your keyboard/laptop back and put a midi keyboard on the desk, depending on how deep it is. I'm sure my M-Audio BX5A monitor would fit on those stands.
