A slight hi-jack... What do people use to strip the outer sheath of instrument cable?[/quote]Mostly I just use a craft knife for stripping outer jackets, they're fine if you're careful. Maybe a tiny pair of side-cutters, it depends on the cable construction really. For general stripping (ooo-err missus!) I use my work Stripmasters.

Where's best for the conventional (solderable) right angled 'low profile' (flat) plugs?

This type, with guaranteed quality.

If you've got slightly more room, I'd be inclined to go for

as I think the cable clamping will be a little more reliable.

What is Bitsbox like for delivery times and reliability?

I ordered the jack plugs in Sunday Morning and they arrived on Tuesday so can't fault delivery time! This is my first purchase from them but my father has used them for a couple of years for odd bits here and there (probably about 50 orders over the last 2 years) and I think they have only 'messed up' once when they sent the wrong size of something and were happy to exchange it

Good to know, I put my first order in (one of many if it goes right, it's like a bloomin' candy store!) about two minutes before you posted.

I found that the best device for holding the plug solid while soldering it was a 2" cube offcut of wood, screwed to an offcut of laminate flooring, i've drilled 1/4" holes into the block and just slot the plug into that to hold it while soldering, as a bonus the offcut of flooting acts as a cover for whatever surface i'm working on!
