Ideal starting out gigs in London/Brighton and the South East?

Hey guys

Query's in the title. We seem to have all the necessary parts - setlist, soundcould (albeit not a great one) and the odd contact here and there but we've been having trouble getting gigs I assume owing to lack of experience/establishment (could easily be wrong and we could just sound sh*te, but nevermind)

We're a 3 piece blues rock outfit from the Brighton area and are about to leave college so making hay while the sun shines is a big priority. We've been messed around by a few of the lower end promoters and our demos aren't really up to scratch to start putting out to the bigger ones.

I know plenty of people on BC have gigging experience in the South East and was wondering if you could share your plethora of knowledge - mainly what are easy 'first' gigs in London/Brighton/South East? Ones where the management and crowd are understanding of new bands and where you don't require a backlist of gigging experience or a cult following to get the gig?

Also we'll play for nothing - it's a passion not a living we're after :D

Any help is greatly appreciated

Sounds like your best chance is with pubs.

Here's a list of the Essex ones to start with. Each pub is a music venue. Links to the London venues and other home counties venues are on the page.

Good luck

In Brighton, try:
Prince Albert
Latest Bar
Above Fitzherberts
Bar 42 (Worthing)
Green Door Store
Pav Tav
Once you've done all them you might get a crack at Concorde 2!

Big thanks, lead isn't keen on Green Door Store as he thinks we haven't established ourself enough

Applied to the Blind Tiger in the week only for the city to close the bloody place :(

Will go about pursuing the other places you mentioned though, I assume those without websites have Facebook pages or drop boxes we can apply through?

Much appreciated
