Well, it will end up being a trip down memory lane - I used to have a Hayman 4040, got rid of it because it was too heavy and the neck was too wide! Maybe I've bought myself another one by mistake! But trying to mentally compare how other basses have been since I think it must have been over 10lbs. I don't know if you are a member on the Shergold Forum but if you're not then it's worth joining. Someone on there will probably even know what day your bass was made on. Paul S Posted September 30, 2013 Share Posted September 30, 2013 Incidentally, I found a thread on the Shergold forum started by the guy who bought my old Hayman 4040 - he took it to bits completely and started to restore it. We got as far as sanding the body and re-filling the neck screw-holes then no more updates. Interesting to read it weighed only a shade over 9.5lbs - well, in bits it did. [/quote] Compared to most basses it is really light! Hopefully mine will just as light - balsa or obeche or similar. I absolutely love the shape of these, just hope it works out ok. I bought a 1960s VOX bass some time ago that had replacement pickups which i planned to replace with the originals but decided to keep them as they sounded o.k. and it made the bass unique. Paul S Posted October 16, 2013 Share Posted October 16, 2013 A brief update cos I know everyone is waiting by their pcs - this Marathon arrived today. Tatty and dirty, the only parts of the body where the paint isn't cracked is where there isn't any and it is worn through to the wood! It needs a couple of little things sorting out and setting up - but absolutely gorgeous. Electrically it works and sounds nice and thumpy with a warm and individual tone. Neck felt a little bit wide when playing yet somehow still seems comfy. So I was surprised when I measured it and it is actually 41mm at the nut and 43mm across the neck. Off the bat I would have said this was too wide for me, but there you go. But the biggest and nicest surprise is that it weighs an almost insignificant 7.5lbs. I think I got myself a good deal here.
