brightonjazzfestival.com actually redirects (without domain forwarding(?)(looks like she's taken it down because of all the kerfuffle) to >>>>> http://nicolacairncr...stival-website/

with her response to Barry Dallman

although judging by the 'overall vibe' of her website i think i have a pretty good idea who is actually the genuine music lover and supporter of community music and who is just out to make a fast easy buck (just my opinion of course) <_<

edit

I have taken the site down now (will take an hour or so to propogate online) and we can all reflect on the loss of yet another potential champion for a much loved art form.

dont you just love this sort of passive/aggressive bollocks

I posted this link last week, but it seems to have vanished.

Yeah, I thought someone had done so, but couldn't find it in a search. and concluded I'd seen it somewhere else.
Nice to know I was right. Then, I'm always right. ;) :D

I read this and commented on the guys page but it didn't seem to get put up...

I'm probably going to go down in flames for it, but I don't see the issue here. No-one is being forced to play this event so I don't see the exploitation? I don't understand why some musos seem to think they are entitled to a living because they can play the bass... As I can see it, the only way you will make money from your music is if you are playing something people are prepared to pay to hear. If your band would fill an otherwise empty venue then the venue would be happy to pay you as you are making them money... If no-one is interested why shoud you be paid?

I'm all for music for musics sake, I compose stuff myself that no-one else is even vaguely interested in. But I do it for a love of the music. I don't expect to be paid for it... I have a regular job to pay for the 'rent - food - council tax - etc' My music is not popular enough for me to make a living off and I don't expect to be paid just because I am a competent player.

The world owes nobody a living...

+1

I couldn't really undestand all the fuss either. Surely such things are only exploitation if the T&Cs are a secret and/or people are somehow forced to pay and play?

As it is, someone has tried to organise an event with certain 'rules' and it was for performers to take or leave. Seems like they mostly chose to decline and so the proposed event was cancelled.

Such things are a consequence of democratising music. Similar things are happening in the world of photography, film making and even journalism - once the preserve of specialists with expensive facilities but now accessible to almost anyone and very easy to distribute the end results around the world.
