I have had second thoughts about selling my '71 fretless (thanks Beedster!) and so I am putting this up FS instead. This being a 1990/1 CIJ hollow bodied A/E Precision fretless. It has a Cafe Walter preamp and a piezo and 'normal' P pickup which can be blended. As is typical for this model (according to Talkbass) the G piezo output is slighly weaker than the E/A/D (apparently as the bridge pressure is lower on the G piezo [there is less tension from the thinner G string than the thicker E/A/D]); it can be remedied by getting a luthier to split the bridge saddle apparently - a fix which is largely invisible - but I was happy blending the two pickups so that the lower piezo output is neutralised by the electric pickup). Whatever, it sounds great live (I used it at our Finsbury gig a couple of weeks back and BCer wwcringe aka Tom commented on it sounding DB-like). For an early 90s bass it's in great nick with just a couple of minor dings. Weighs under 8 pounds

The price is what I paid only a couple of months back on BC. Sorry no trades..

These are stock pics of an identical bass as its too dark to take a photo now

Wonderful basses. I have one exactly the same and love it. Loads of great sounds and practically no weight at all. Someone is going to be extremely happy with that.

As you say, does the best double bass impression of any bass guitar.

I wouldn't normally advise anyone to take my advice, but on this occasion I suspect you were wise to do so Clarky :)

Chris I thought you declared this bass fugly!!!!! In answer to your question, its not the original Lace Sensor but appears to be a DiMarzio P pickup and sounds like a good thumping P should. I recommend you drop a PM to Gareth (walbassist) who had it on trial and played it extensively before deciding he preferred his Veillette - he will give you an honest appraisal :)

It is fugly, but if I was into aesthetics, would I play Precisions? I have a lovely Jazz that I doubt I'll ever gig, a nice SWR head, and an interesting combo to sell. I reckon if sold, collectively they'd allow me to buy it mate, and although I don't like the looks at all, to be honest it's a Fender Precision model I haven't owned, and you know me :)

Ha ha! I do know you Chris. Definitely drop a line to Gareth. He really liked the bass but not quite enough to displace the Veillette (which he had made for him) in his affections. One point, it has a pretty slim J type neck.

To be precise, the neck feels very slim but I believe its a Precision width (this article describes it as such http://www.njaz.com/...rs/fenderae.htm). I can measure nut width tonight (oo err)
Rewind! It is a Jazz ('A') width. I measured it at 1.5" at the nut. Which may rule it out for you Chris

Thanks mate, that's a shame, I was hoping after the post yesterday that it was a wide but flat'un like my 62 RI. However, like all things Fender, it doesn't rule it out, I've played some Jazz/A necks I've loved and some Precision B/C necks I've hated (and to be honest I tend to find width less of an issue on fretless for some reason). I hope to be in town sometime over the next couple of weeks so if it's still for sale by then perhaps we'll hook up - ideally in an evening and over a beer because despite the fact that we must have done about 10 face to face deal, the average time has been about 5 mins - and I'll give it a play.

Update: I am going to keep this bass (at least for now) as I have agreed a trade deal on my 70/1 P fretless. Of course I reserve the right to change my mind at least 17 times

Would still be nice to have a beer some time Chris if you make iit to the smoke :)

Ha ha, someone get on to the media quick; Beedster and Clarky in no transaction shock :D

Yep, a beer would be nice mate, bring the A/E just in case though! I'll be in touch with dates, although I'm aware it's a bit of a busy summer for Clarke et al.

Thanks Rich, I just acquired an instrument that makes this redundant for my purposes. So its up for sale again

£700 (or near offer) including semi-hard Protection Racket gigbag. As an aside, the electronics were tidied up and solder joints improved by BC's very own obbm while this was on trial with walbassist (Gareth), so its tickety-boo in all respects.

Step right up if you want a fretless thats a bit different and does a very passable impersonation of a double bass

Some pics of the actual bass in this previous FS thread (hope thats OK Sercet?) http://basschat.co.u...-bass-for-sale/
