Four of us went to the london bass show yesterday and we had a good craic and all that but think I was a wee bit dissapointed there wasn't ( or maybe I just didn't see) the latest offerings from companies like bergantino, genz, etc? Thought maybe barefaced & goodfellows would be there too? But you can always rely on the legions of slap monsters! They never fail to show! Lol!

I'm not sure of the costs but I suspect finances may be a bit prohibitive for the smaller companies like Barefaced and Goodfellows. How many speakers and basses do you need to sell to justify the cost of a stand at LBGS? Hopefully Molan will be along shortly to tell us the cost of a stand for the weekend.

The stands are pretty expensive - Hartke told me that the lighting and electric bill alone was pretty astounding. - As for Berg and Genz, Mark of BassDirect had more of their gear last year, not so much this year. Some really nice basses though!

Flippin eck! 400?

Yep, and it's a good job we don't need electricity! Mind you, I used to go to MIDEM, the music expo in Cannes and that was worse, about £15,000 for the stand and the same again to furnish it. It used to be cheaper to buy TV's and DVD players and leave them there afterwards rather than hire stuff in.

Goodfellow did exhibit a couple of years ago. Bernie said that the main problem is the venue itself. The logistics for getting stuff in and out are terrible as you're not allowed to park anywhere near, and then the lifts are limited. Times all that for multiple loads of basses and amps - then times that for multiple exhibitors and it soon becomes chaos.

That surprised me that the logistics would be so bad for Olympia but there you are - that was Bernie's reason.

Cue David Attenborough voice....

Yes. As their natural habitat (the jazz-funk band) has been continually eroded, these creatures have adapted to a new environment where their cryptic colouration and elusive behaviour blends in well.

Beautiful, aren't they?

To be frank if you were treating the LBGS as an exercise of making money as a distributor/manufacture you wouldn't turn up. Bear in mind most people expect discounts at the show and the product is still going through a retailer. For what it is worth we go because of the opportunity to talk directly to our customers although I would be happier if the stand holders stuck to the 1/4 hr on 3/4 off playing rule so it wasn't as intense.
