My '74 SG Special fell off a table IN IT'S CASE and got a headstock crack. I pretty much cried when I found out it was cracked days later, I have such a strong emotional attachment to it (18th birthday present, s/h!).
It does seem to happen to Gibsons more than other mahogany-necked instruments. May be a combination of truss rod acess and voloute design and headstock angle. I've read even Gibson copies of the sme materials are far less prone to this. I think this was on a youtube vid of Gibson headstock repairs from a guy who had seen tons...

The jazz bass I dropped a few years ago didn't bounce very well, fell about 6ft off the stage & landed headstock first, at least Fender parts are cheap.
