This here box before the BDI would drive it a bit harder, would it not? And then I can remain in cheapskate mode! :D

I know, I know. I've resisted FX for nearly forty years.
I don't want more than 4 strings though, that's going too far! :D

Much like trying to use the level of your playing to control the gain on the BDI this comes with problems. IMO yes you could use a booster to drive the BDI into higher gain, however, it'd also increase the low end/low mids of your sound, and so when you take the boost off it feels lacking.

I really think an EQ pedal would be the way to go. You could use it as a booster anyway (leave flat and turn up volume), so you get to try the above experiment, but also you would be able to address the above problem if i'm right.

Glurk! Oh dear, I've already pulled the trigger on one of these:
http://www.behringer...ucts/PB100.aspx

BUT - I was thinking of having the above permanently on - when I was first considering the pre/power thing at Happy Jack's I noticed his SansAmp had way more balls than the BDI-21, so I could use probably use some more beans anyway...

UPDATE:

The prevailing economic system delivered my PB100 at 9 o'clock on the dot this morning, and instead of carrying out my daily chores I have been avidly messing about with it. And the PB100. *hollow laugh*

I'm using it in front of my BDI-21, and it certainly does drive that little bugger hard! So much so that I need to reduce the amount of drive I normally use. What's good is that with a lot more beans going into the power amp, my sound is now massive. It wasn't feeble before by any means, but I think the cost of this unit is well justified! *rumble, quake*

Cheddatom was right though - I like a fairly scooped sound in my rock trio, but now I have two boxes with treble and bass boost and no mid control whatsoever, so I'm going to go for the Behringer EQ pedal and give myself a few more options.

This of course will boost my input gain even more, so it should all be very interesting indeed!

And I still haven't addressed the original issue of having filth at the touch of a button. May have to get a disto unit, too!

I can see how this happens... one pedal leads to more pedals... I've avoided FX for years, now it looks like I'll need to get a bloody pedalboard, 9v power bank, etc, etc.... more later! :D

OR you could 'man up' and pull the trigger on one of these bad boys...
http://www.davehalla....uk/page29.html They're the kipper's knickers!
I would do so like a shot, but I just haven't got the folding. Hence the crappy Behringer love. :D
