Mr. Foxen
Not been very active on the gear tinkering of late, because I've been busy with a pretty massive project. Its entering a competition so been a bit secretive but some preview stuff has been published online, so I can share that. Could have done with the person writing this actually asking us about it because the text is pretty totally inaccurate, but here's a preview: http://www.latitudef...lca/#cat_linder There are a few youtube videos of the existing ones: Edited July 20, 2012 by Mr. Foxen
mike257
I was wondering when 'the secret project' would get unveiled! Sounds interesting, would love to hear (or should that be feel?) that in action!
Bass Culture
Oooh, I'm off to Latitude. I shall have to seek you/it out!
Mr. Foxen
Just noticed the picture has been updated on the site. I'm not going to the festival, loads of travel to stay in a tent and I got pretty annoyed at the space where we did it when people kept asking if it made sound, I'm not an artist so the level of expectation that I'd put that much effort in making something without function pretty much made me angry. Will, the other guy that worked on it will be there, and the guy playing it, who kept talking about his pedals, another annoying concept when I've been building it to work acoustic. He'll probably want to plug it into a combo or something. Be sure to mock him if he does. Edited July 9, 2012 by Mr. Foxen

lettsguitars
Holy sh*t. Les might want one I suppose.
Mr. Foxen
Vaguely attempting to contact relevant people to see if they want to do stuff with it, Les would be good, but need Europe based people.

This looks a very cool and crazy project
Mr. Foxen
It was tuned to B most of the time we were tinkering with it, because lower tuning is Doom. Did put it through my BFM Omni 15 and had people coming to see what was going on.
apa
Your in estimed company with Chris Moyles and a Young Rowan Atkinson Im intreaged by those strings. I was going to start a trivial thread about the thickest string ever but I think Ive found my answer. What gauge are they? Specialy made I assume? Whats the construction? Mr. Foxen
The are piano strings, custom wound by a guy I know, to the maximum length of his winder, which is about 2m. Don't think they are loads bigger than the ones on my bass tuned to A, lot longer scale though, so don't need epic thickness. Pretty standard copper on steel, round core unlike most bass strings. Mr. Foxen
Sound files when Will is back from the festival. Curious to see if I see any of the prize money since designed and built it with Will in my shed.

Beer of the Bass
Very cool! It puts me in mind of a Stroh violin built on the scale of a dub system bass bin.

Mr. Foxen
Not sure how much winning the award is going to open up. Need to convene with the other guy I made it with to find what's going on, he is enjoying not living in a tent in the mud surrounded by hippies right now, and I'm leaving him to that. Look out for mentions of it elsewhere on the net and put them up here, and see how much credit the people who designed and built it get. Mr. Foxen
Its off Paris in the new year: From the Latitude Festival Facebook wall:
[b] Latitude Contemporary Art: remember Linder's prize-winning octobass this summer? Well, it's off to Paris in Feb 2013 for a big museum show. She returns to the festival with a brand new commission in 2013.
