But, can't think of any exercises of the top of my head.
Sorry!

  • 2 weeks later...

I can't remeber when I got into playing with 3 fingers (perhaps when I got into Dream Theater considering how much of a beast John Myung is) but if ring finger is coded 3, middle finger is 2 and index finger is 1, then keeping the motion of 321 321 321 but counting in 4's 5's or 7's with an accent on the first beat of the beat group seemed like a good method for me.

So the accented note comes on the 1st beat of each group of four beats, but because three fingers are used, the accented finger will change.

Hope this is handy!

I do - I use thumb, index, middle - but sometimes I rake going ring, middle, index- the first way is better for solo lines, the other is more of an effect - I usually do the four finger style for grooves - overall I mainly just play with two though.

Here's one I made earlier - Blue Peter stylee :)

if you want to become super fast , just try playing two octave scales with one note per finger ,
for example , a c major scale

1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3
C D E F G A B C D E F G A B C

playing scales slowly and then speeding them up is how i got into playing 4 fingers

it helps being double jointed too :)

i use thumb and four fingers if I'm playing solo stuff in a classical guitar stylee, but for rock, I tend to only need two for the majority of stuff, some of the stabs in 'all my life' by the foos being the only example that springs to mind

Huh, after watching John Myung's Progressive Bass Concepts I thought of starting doing things with 3 fingers. Took DiGiorgio's pdf. school for start.

By the way, maybe someone's here 'is good' at John's video thingies? I got a few questions..

And the other thing, spotted some guy called Giorgio Terenziani, here are few vids from his DVD...

Anyone had any bussiness with his DVD?
