[/quote] I think it may of been for a 51 but this was about 5 years ago, I got it on eBay and I think it was actually listed as a Dirnt scratchplate - I just assumed it was from a 51 but I could be wrong... MarkG3 Posted January 31, 2012 Share Posted January 31, 2012 I found the pickup to be really good, much better than the stock one in my USA standard precision. I haven't played on a 51 so I don't know how similar the body's are in terms of contour etc. The bridge is a badass 2 which again imo is better than most stock Fender MIM and USA. Both were quality basses, the only real difference being the sound - the 51 having the traditional single coil pickup, and a maple neck, which always seems to make the sound a bit more "zingy" to me in the upper mid area. In terms of build quality, both were excellent. A luthier I know rubbished the fact that its stated that the pickup in the MD is a Custom Shop 59, but then why do so many people rate this pickup? munkonthehill Posted February 3, 2012 Author Share Posted February 3, 2012 Well I had my new MD bass at rehearsals tonight. The bass feels great and sounds amazing. Its very lively and not really what i was expecting from a P-bass. The tone pot really is fantastic. The variation in sound it provides could easily be mistaken for some kind of active circuit. I easily went from 25 miles by Edwyn Star, to the sweet child of mine riff and nailed the tones no problem. My new band has a gig lined up on the 25th of this month and we are just finalising our setlist. My singer, the 2 guitarists and drummer hit me with a bombshell. They clearly stated I have to LEAVE my Rickenbacker at home and I must use the MD!!! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Its terrible to call this vintage white seeing its bloody light yellow!!! However I am now past this issue and love the bass for what it is..
