Budget improvements - wilkinson stuff

May be picking up a cheapy squier of which I know the pickups are a bit weak. Being poor (well, more tight than poor), will wilkinson pickups be much of an improvement or would I be better off hunting down something better on the used market. I'm not a gigging musician so high end not really an issue.
Cheers, Brett.

I have a P bass with a Wilkinson pickup. Not fantastic but definitely does the job. If the pickup you're getting is weak then maybe worth a punt but I'd always look at the second hand market first, might scoop something better for the same money.

I used Kent Armstrong - much the same price - on a split coil P-bass type bass and they were pretty good, really. But as has been said, if there is no rush you could hold out for secondhand - I just got a Seymour Duncan SPB3 for same sort of money.

I've recently had Wilkinsons put on a Mex Jazz ( along with bridge & tuners)& they sound the bizz to me - i think there's 2 different types - cheaper & not so cheap- mine's are the not so cheap & the guitar doc thought they were better than the stock ones especially the bridge pickup. They seem very powerful to me .
