fatboyslimfast Posted June 1, 2011 Share Posted June 1, 2011 Hi all, I'm currently learning my way around the fretboard (i.e. which lettered note corresponds with which string/fret) and thought it would be really handy to have a little program that flashes a random note (C#, F, A etc) on the screen for a predetermined amount of time (say 1 second) so I can then attempt to play that note while it's on screen. Has anyone come across something like this? If it could play the note as well it would be really handy, but I'd settle for just the visual prompt... It can be for any platform, Mac, Windoze, Linux, iOS...anything really (ok, maybe not ZX81...). Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Skol303 Posted June 1, 2011 Share Posted June 1, 2011 There's an app on iOS that does this, called 'Bass Clef', but it requires you to 'play' the notes by tapping a virtual string on your phone, rather than just giving you random notes to play on a real bass - if that makes any sense? I came across it after being recommended by someone on Basschat (but I can't remember who!). Very useful and strangely addictive, in my opinion... Not exactly what I was looking for (haven't checked the Mac one yet), but some great tools there. The Vic W one is close, and should help with placement - hopefully transferring it to the real fretboard shouldn't be too much of a trouble. Esp useful are the ios ones, as I'm going on hols for a week soon and can't take the bass (missus' orders) so can practice a bit on the iphone!
