+1 for Hercules. I use the GS414B - first one on the page. It's a LOT sturdier than it looks in these photos! It gets used every day, several times, no issues at all. Strong, safe, reliable, and looks pretty cool!

Had the cheapies from Argos and they did ok.
Easy to store and a lot less than the Hercules.

Also have the Hercules 5 at home and find it very unstable with certain basses. Jazz doesn't sit straight and can easily fall over or be knocked over in a live situ.
Jazz and Warwick seem to sit on the strap button if you want them to stand up straight.

Wouldn't buy another Hercules. :)

Cheers
Dave

K&M

they fold up small and are very stable, more so than the "hercules"

adjusts to different guitars / basses so not conflicting with pots etc.

very light

I wouldn't recommend Hercules either (or at least the TWIN stand) as it just doesn't seem stable.

One day I hung my precision on someone else's twin stand, only for the stand and the bass to fall flat.

Took a chunk out of the side of the fingerboard as it fell against a mike stand...

My old 'Catch-O-Matic' stand has been absolutely great. I haven't seen any original versions around, but would buy another if I came across one. Here's a picture of the latest version...

I really wanted one of these and thought I had got on on ebay but the Royal Mail intervened and trashed the stand. Got my money back immediately from the seller with no hassle but fed up that I nearly had the stand!
Some of the stands I've looked at say they are not suitable for nitro finishes.
I saw a long time ago on a site that the unsuitability of some stands (& the insides of many cases) is due to the chemicals in the foam padding. Substituting the foam on either if one takes your fancy should cure it.

I've got a Fender branded - though I'm sure it's generic - stand, but it has a wide footprint & a high neck support, & folds down quite small. Cost around £25-£30 IIRC.
