The PJB stuff is nice for sure and I may acquire something from the range at some point... one of my requirements for this combo though is that it lives in the boot of the car, out of sight and probably quite safe but still would rather not risk too much as I don't have private parking. ficelles

Yeah but I keep my vintage guitars under the bed, well apart from the '63 P (which belongs to a friend) which lives in the cupboard... should there be an "under the bed" thread? Btw he didn't say he found it in the loft, just that's where it had been to explain the tarnished metal. ficelles

You know I sometimes think you guys are way too keen to try and expose "fakes". He's only asking £495... Maybe I'll make an offer ficelles

Ok I have here a set of Super Silvers 140SS that I bought new which have been on my upright for a couple of months, played at home but never gigged and never bowed, lovely sound but I can't get on with the feel of nylon so have just fitted a set of Braideds. In the original (slightly squashed!) box, £50 including postage. ficelles

Actually I heard a PJB Briefcase recently and was well impressed, but not by the price! In the meantime have decided to try an EBS 60 combo, which is full range and also tiltback so ideal for personal monitoring at bigger gigs. Not exactly budget but not expensive either... So now I've ordered and paid for it, anyone tried and like or dislike them? ficelles

SD SFX 06 Paranormal Bass DI - not available in the EU as far as I know due to some ROHS compliance issue... Anyway it's an excellent active DI pedal for bass with bass-friendly 3-band EQ, slap contour for some scooped mids and enhanced low end, jack out to amp, XLR out to desk / whatever, both EQ and contour are footswitchable, runs off battery or external 9v psu (UK adapter included if required). Comes in original - slightly worn - box. The pedal is in full working order and very good condition. Looking for £65 plus shipping. Could maybe trade / swap with interesting bleepy / swirly / synthy stuff. ficelles
Ta for that - I consider myself edumacated. In my defence, 'bass fiddle' is a term used widely in bluegrass and old-timey...
Saw the excellent Sharon Shannon's band a few years back and loved the way she calls db "bull fiddle"... ficelles

Strange question time. Stage volume vs Speaker config.
ficelles replied to Mog's topic in Amps and Cabs
These symptoms can usually be traced to the venue, being caused by room boundary interactions, and changing the speakers would have no effect. All speakers lose volume with respect to distance via the same equation.
6db per doubling of distance from a point source... is an 8 x 10 a point source or a line source? Anyway room acoustics have a huge effect on that very general rule. ficelles -
Just wondering if I can get a single low B string for a Braided set... ficelles Edit - answered my own question I think, it's the 9014LBH?

I had an awful gig last night Appalling monitor sound onstage matched by an appalling sound coming out of my own amp, horrible miscellaneous noises all around that everyone else heard as well, couldn't hear anyone, played like a d*ckhead, got totally flustered in the 2nd number and would have improved things by just leaving the stage, picked up a bit towards the end but how depressing! I reckon that stage was haunted, old theatres and all that... And then to cap it all my guitarist decided to talk loudly all the way through the (really good) main act continually criticising them and their songwriting with one of their gfs sitting to his right and the promoter sitting to my immediate left, both of whom heard every word of his endless unstoppable monologue. The bit where he decided to sing the chorus to Walking On Sunshine over a really nice song that wasn't even vaguely similar was the point at which I wanted a satellite to crash through the ceiling on to my head and end it all I think. Thinking of growing a beard and changing my name, or maybe just reinventing myself as a bhodran player? ficelles

Ok so I just noticed an Akai SB-1 Deep Impact on fleabay with an asking price of £650. So I've never played through one or even knowingly heard one but I know they are well rated, but really? £650? *That* good? Someone tell me what it's all about... ficelles

Title says it... what's good for EUB, what are the budget options, is it worth shelling out for a piece of centuries-old rain forest or is a Glasser all you need on EUB? ficelles

Kevin McGuire - double bass player for Kate Rusby

Kate's great, one of my favourite singers / musicians. And she always has a good band with her. Must catch a show when she's down this way... ficelles -
Roland VB99 - complete - Final drop ever - Provisionally sold
ficelles replied to ryancowell25's topic in Effects For Sale
Well I seem to have had a bit of a senior moment there as I thought I'd seen the GK-3B included that price but I can't find it now, so the new price for a VB-99 plus a GK-3B is £869 + £119 i.e. £988. And like you say yours has loads of extra stuff including the floor controller which is £300 new. Anyway looks like you have a buyer so all good ficelles -

Great idea this! I'm not taking to the Super Silvers, want to try either Braided or Honeys or similar... the Super Silvers haven't been bowed or even gigged. ficelles P.s. I also have an old set of Spirocores, is that everyone's dark secret?

My CR had the D'Addario NS Traditional set on when I got it and I've seen no reason to change... I've been playing more arco recently and they seem to respond quite well. Difficult to avoid the EUB sustain thing without some electronic treatment though, has the NXT got a pizzi/acoustic simulation setting switch like the WAV? It wasn't the most convincing sound but maybe with a bit of tweaking... otherwise a good compressor set for a high ratio but allowing a lot of attack could work. In fact I'm going to be trying that very thing at this evening's gig with my newly-acquired T-Rex Squeezer ficelles

I hate to rain on the mute idea but I'm afraid it won't do much to low frequencies, it's more of a high frequency damper for arco practice. I had a nightmare scenario in my last place with a total jack*ss in the flat above who objected to everything from anyone, never mind the fact that all around him could hear his radio, tv and video games. Every time I played the acoustic he complained (sure it was audible, but no more than his pigging x-box!). One night he hammered on the door after I'd had a beer or two and I told him to go f*ck himself and soon after he had a row with the landlord and suddenly moved on, but then he wasn't a bouncer... If you have sound insulations problems then EUB is really the only way as low frequencies will always carry. I'm in a different flat now with much better sound insulation but even so I limit my acoustic practice far more than I would like to. ficelles

Should probably add... Basschat has made it onto my list of Sites That Make My Laptop Fan Go Into Overdrive For No Obvious Reason so don't expect an immediate response! For those running this excellent site, what's it doing, running scripts? ficelles

New printer, left over cartridges from the old one... so 2 sets of 3 OEM colour cartridges (i.e. not black) for Epson DX3800 printers. These work just fine but will trigger the "you are not using Epson" message if you have the ink monitor running. Free to the first verifiable address, don't worry about postage... ficelles
