1. Have to ask btw, do you really play a twin-neck bass? ficelles
2. How did you put up with that scenario for 2 years ffs? You must have the patience of a saint. After 2 minutes of adverse comparisons I'd have said "well if you lot weren't good enough for that *&!^ you sure aren't good enough for me" and legged it... ficelles
3. Outstanding... thanks, folks! ficelles
4. I don't suppose anyone has a spare NS Design gig bag of the fitted type that the WAV comes with? Or know if they can be bought separately? ficelles
5. Rasputina. Heavy metal chicks with cellos. Go on, you know you want to... ficelles
6. These are great suggestions and I think I may have to try a Promethean, but what about the budget end of the scale, anything in the Harley-Benton price range that's portable and usable for EUB? ficelles
7. Another one here... write left-handed but play bass (and all other instruments) right-handed. Or do I? The left hand is quite busy after all... The choice for me was made by the woeful lack of left-handed instruments in the 70s. ficelles
8. Second topic in one night! Just looking for folks' recommendations for an ultra-portable EUB combo. I'm currently using an Ashdown Acoustic Radiatior, have also made use of an AER Alpha (surprisingly good). Last big gig relied on a good engineer and foldback. What's around that you can sling over one shoulder with your EUB in the other hand? ficelles
9. Title says it all: in search of a nylon set that feels like steel to play i.e. low tension but nice and slippery. I'd also like the moon on a stick if that's ok... ficelles
10. South West Music Awards last night - played to a full house including Phil Beer and Joss Stone. I think my most nerve-wracking gig to date, especially once I knew Phil Beer was in the audience... but they all applauded and nobody threw anything at us so I guess we got away with it Joss Stone ignored me all night btw... ficelles
11.
Bump £100 delivered
PM-ed ficelles
12. Just got myself an original-style NS strap system to see how it compared to the boomerang strap I've been used to for well over a year now, anyone else use one of these? It certainly gives a better playing position but is hellishly uncomfortable, although the metal plate in my left collar bone probably isn't helping things given that it lines up perfectly with the strap button bolt end! Anyway apart from the pic of Tony L using one on the NS site I can't find much info... can anyone suggest the best way to use/wear it? Merci, ficelles
13.
Would you consider shipping it ? Cheers Barry
Nothing to ship it in I am afraid... ficelles
14.
Some good tips thanks a lot. Would raising the cab a few inches make a difference or are we talking over a foot? Does the height that you raise the cab make any difference.
Raising the cab off the floor would make a difference mostly if the floor itself is part of the problem, which of course is not impossible! ficelles
15.
In addition to room modes you may be exciting, there's a possibility that you're generating a standing wave.
Surely one and the same thing? ficelles
16.
Here is something i have never encountered to this degree after 25 years of gigging. My covers band were doing a gig in a local pub last night. There is a song that has a bit where the bass drops out on the verse and comes back in again on the chorus with the first note being an F#. When i hit the F# it was like a bomb going off! Ok i know it was fireworks night but to my ears this note sounded twice as loud as any other note i played Next time around i thought ok i'll play it an octave up. Boom! Same problem. Every other note was fine - just F#. I tried to play with the EQ and this helped a little bit but the note was still way louder than all the rest? Any advice on what to do in this situation?
If your graphic is accurate enough, take out 46.25 Hz a few dB. Or double that frequency, or 4 x etc. Somewhere in that room there are some nice parallel acoustically reflective surfaces around 7.46 metres apart and your F# is exciting that room mode (lucky old room mode I say). In all seriousness, deal with it with your playing technique. If you know it's F#, play the F# quieter. It sounds like an incredible demand on a bassist but the fact that you know what the problem is and where it is means you are more than halfway there. ficelles

18. Update and bump! Just to be clear - no breaks, no repairs, no horrible dings (a couple of small ones not visible except close-up), very playable and I can include a cheapo bow if wanted. I have the action set as high as it will go as I like it that way but it will go down to low and slinky if you prefer. A note on the bag - I have covered the wear on the base with black gaffer tape to stop it getting worse. ficelles
19. Having recently acquired a CR5M I guess the WAV is now surplus... not looking to ship it so hoping for a Devon buyer! So it's an NS Design WAV in honeyburst or whatever the colour is called, good condition and full working order but has toured not only the south west but also Michigan with me and crossed the Atlantic as hand luggage, so both bass and bag have some signs of use. Nothing excessive but not pristine either. Comes with the original stand which I have never used out of the house being a strap player, fitted with the original NS strings. I have some pics but they are from when I bought it so it wouldn't be overly fair to post them all, I'd much rather the buyer came round and had a look for themselves (I am near Bideford). I've attached one anyway just so you can see what it looks like (as if you don't all know). Update - some recent pics added down the thread. Looking for £450 ovno. I will even give the buyer a complimentary copy the of album I recorded in Detroit with the WAV while I was there ficelles
20. 2 x narrow gauge angle jacks, 2 x narrow gauge straight jacks, 2 x wide gauge straight jacks, various bits of narrow gauge cable. First verifiable address gets the lot, don't worry about postage. ficelles
21. Not having a good experience with this forum at the moment... need to press the "back" button 2-3 times to get out of a page and the behaviour of arrow keys etc in edit is bizarre to say the least. Just put in a one line post and the laptop nearly had to have a flying lesson... Is it just me? New "vanilla" W7 + IE9 installion... ficelles
22. But without a sub I have no decision to make Seriously though, subs may make people think solely of intestine-wrenching near-subsonic frequencies but actually most crossover far higher than might be expected and can be really a good addition for an amp like my AAR-1C which is a little light on bottom end. A small sub doesn't mean you have to be silly with the low end, most PAs have them after all... ficelles
23.
Do you really need to go that low? most of what you hear is the second harmonic
True of bass guitars, far less so of EUB's. ficelles
