1. Love these Kubicki basses.
2. It's as slow as treacle at the moment, but there are still some nice basses showing up there.
3.
You read it though and felt the need to contribute
I read it up to that video where Deal was playing the bassline to some plodding rock song and trying to revel in the glory of it, despite it being so naff Adam Clayton would refuse to play it!
4. Who the f*** is Kim Deal? Oh wait, another dull thread about someone who doesn't like slap/can't slap.
5. Bass tone is a bit lame and the music is pretty naff. The guy clearly knows his middle of the road slap, however!
6. Still entertaining trade offers for a fretless.
7. Is that #1779? I used to own #1777 funnily enough, also a white 1989 model with the 6 position preamp. Was a great bass, not quite as good as my current Ex Factor though.
8.
You can hear him nicely on The Dance of Eternity and on Most of Octavarium (the album)
Well, you can, but his tone was dung, so I'd rather not thanks!
9. Very predictable, thankfully John Myung seems to have returned to the fold as you couldn't hear a bloody thing he was doing when he had those Yamahas! The song itself was nothing special though, the same proggy riffs and irritating keys solos that they've been pedalling for a while now.
10. It really would be worth keeping the Lane Poor pickup in there or at least removing it intact so it can be sold on. Lane Poor pickups are no longer made but they are extremely good and considered the best option for Flea basses alongside Bartolini humbuckers. If you're not liking the sharp, edgy sound it's probably due to the graphite neck. Flea basses growl and sound zingy even with Barts in. You may be better off looking for a different bass.
11. The new site is looking good! Needs more photos of the basses on though, so I look forward to that.
12. It's not a Musicman and it will never be a Musicman. Why stick a Musicman logo on it?
13. This so cool. I love these home videos Mark keeps doing (the Christmas one was amazing!). It's great that he's selling off loads of top quality kit for charity. Super rare items like the Kingbass and the Ashdown stuff must mean a lot to him so he must be a top bloke to sell it. It was nice hearing the rare demo track 'Link One' at the end too!
14. I prefer 32" scale for slap (as in, my Kubicki) and 34" scale for fingerstyle. If you get your string gauges right and your action set correctly it makes little difference in the end though!
15. Bump, no longer for sale. Trades still considered for fretless basses though!
16. Too late in the day to change history now, pal!
17.
There's the rub, you see - lots of people like steamed cabbage. It's good for you and rich in flavour. Steamed cabbage must be a good thing, then, much like the P bass. QED
I do love a good wind up. I choose steamed cabbage because it was bland, had UI wished to be more forthright I would have suggested the P bass equates to a steaming dog turd!
18. If only he'd stop doing those extended scat solos!
19.
That's a bit like saying "steak, the last resort when inspiration has left the chef".
I think tapioca or steamed cabbage would be more appropriate than a steak as that implies some kind of quality!

Hey DOOD!

I have to say, that bass in the video did sound awful. It probably would have been better if he hadn't just been squeaking away on those top strings!
21.
Nothing silly about having an opinion - not a prejudice. I've been to see some of the 'truly great bass players' and became bored at the self-indulgence rather quickly. I don't intend wasting any more of my money to pander to the slightly elitist attitude you show in your post. If you simply attack another person's views as silly, without trying to understand their preferences, how are you going to convert them to your point of view. Your loss.
Chill mate, there is no need to get wound up here. The world needs people thumping root notes and playing Mustang Sally. So you're not cut out for the fusion elite, no need to feel bad about it. By the way, as Bilbo pointed out, you were completely wrong about AJ back there, I mean, come on - slapping? This is Anthony Jackson we're talking about here. A bloke who, when not flexing in fusion and Latin jazz bands plays for massive artists and probably recorded half the basslines you hear pub cover bands knocking out!
22. To be fair I manage alright on my Kubicki which has 23 frets.
