1.
I've owned both, and didn't find 'my sound' in either - both of them suffered from a lack of punch, plenty of volume and lots of scope for different tones, but the difference when I moved to an Orange Bass Terror was HUGE.
Never really thought about Orange stuff - am I right in thinking Geddy Lee using them at the mo'?
Yes. Start by not touching any of the knobs, it already sounds good and full. To be honest I am suspicious of amps that have lots of knobs and switches and sliders. It makes me think it's probably a fundamentally bad-sounding amp. I think the Hartke LH heads have little in the way of EQ onboard because they were confident it sounded good.
After using an Ashdown MAG for the last few years - I've never been happy with the sound from it AND that's with the EQ activated and the 2 presets pushed in!, so this has definitely given me food for thought.
I'm happy to admit that I've got a Peavey head with 12 buttons too many on it and would have gone for a "cutdown" version without those buttons if they had one in their range that matched my requirements.
Fair play to you sir!
 2.
As always, the best advice would be to go and try them both out and see which one suits your needs the best
I'm purchasing a Spector soon from a well known south coast shop and from what I can see they keep both in stock so will have to try 'em both out!
The Hartke naturally has scooped mids sound,
Funnily enough I've been trailing YouTube for any clips and found this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MywqeLVu57E
 3. Hmm...see that's one of the things I've been thinking about, does the peavey have too many things on it and can you get a good full sound out of the hartke when it's only got three knobs!?

 5. Afternoon all, I'm looking to get a new rig in the new year and have been looking at both the Hartke LH5000 and the Peavey Tour 450. From what I can gather, the LH5000 is powered by a valve and the Tour 450 is soldid state but apart from that, they both seem fairly close in price and power rating so just wondered what peoples' opinions on these two would be! cheers Dan
 6. Coooooooooooooooool! I had this one as my first "proper" bass in exactly the same colour, always regretted selling it especially as I found out via a mutual friend that the guy I had sold it to had bought another bass and decided to leave the Yammy in his shed for a few years.... Definitely a bargain you got there!
 7. Hello peeps, I have a slight problem with my Ashdown MAG combo and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good amp repairer near to where I'm based (Horsham, west sussex)? cheers Dan

 9. Evening, as I haven't been in a band for a while I thought I'd use the downtime to repair/get all my equipment up to scratch. Got the action right on the basses and then I turned to my amp (Ashdown MAG combo), about a year ago the light bulb on the input gauge went. So emailed the nice chaps @ Ashdown who very kindly sent me a free bulb so with my trusty screwdriver and soldering iron I attempted to repair it, took the amp head out of the frame, got the circuit board free then tried to find where the bulb was located, thinking it would be part of the gauge assembly I took that off, inspected it - then my lovely (and keen eyed!) other half pointed out that it was situated underneath! I soldered the new bulb in, put everything back together and switched it on. The light was working, the amp was working but the flippin' gauge wasn't! Took it apart again, put everything back again but to no avail, the gauge didn't respond. Have emailed a few shops about getting it repaired professionally but either I get no response or the few that have come back have quoted me a minimum charge of £50 an hour! So...do I forge on and try get it fixed or do I sell as it is (the amp works perfectly) and get a new one? cheers Dan
 10. Thanks for the offer Andy but as much as I like Deep Purple - I have been in a tribute band before so not for me really. all the best Dan
 11. Hi, I'm 37, have been playing bass for about 18 years, I play fingerstyle, with a pick or slap, also good with fx (chorus, wah, distortion) and can provide backing vocals. My main influences (bass-wise) have been players like Doug Pinnick of Kings X, John Entwistle of The Who, Billy Gould of Faith No More, Doug Wimbish of Living Colour and along with the groups mentioned previously, others that have influenced me have been Muse, Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Foo Fighters, RATM, Soundgarden, RHCP and Rush. Currently listening to Biffy Clyro, Dream Theater, Coheed And Cambria and Chickenfoot. I have been in various bands over the years ranging from a rock/metal power trio doing original material with whom I recorded a self financed album to various other covers/original bands. I'm looking to join a Classic Rock, Metal, Grunge covers or originals band in the horsham/crawley/gatwick area. If you fancy having a listen to some of my playing please go to www.myspace.com/danthemanonbass Cheers Dan

 13. So sad reading this, as the guys have said in the previous posts, my thoughts are with his family. My brother in law is dyslexic and is a mechanic and has struggles at work as he works at a Vauxhall dealer and it's all fairly computerised compared to when he first started in the 80's. Also a guy I know has quite a bad stutter and very similar to Jimmy he sings with no problem and is now the frontman for a local covers band, the human brain is definitely a strange beast.
