1.
Really good read, keep us posted!

Fantastic bit of narrative and beautifully executed. I'm hooked.

I've never been more hooked than when Dirty Den got shot by a bunch of Daffs! More please!
What they said!
2. After reading about the current line up in Classic Rock Presents Prog and remembering the guitarist in my very first band banging on about 'em, I've downloaded/am listening to the "Best Of" and "Once Around The World" by It Bites...and I have to say I'm really rather liking some of their stuff!
3. I use the iRig adaptor and Amplitube (the free version) on my iPad, I'd originally downloaded both this app and the GK free one, initially preferred the GK one but I've got to say the tone is not as good as what you get from the Amplitube app which I've found it to be fairly close to what sound I used to get with my Boss ME50B. Yes, you do have to copy over any songs you want to play along with, unlike the GK app where it literally is plug in and play but once you get used to it, it's a very useful tool IMHO with the various features already mentioned in the other posts. The iRig adaptor cost me £23 (off of Amazon) and was a tenner cheaper than most of the headphone amps! Modern technology, marvellous! Cheers Dan
4.
IMHO you could do no worse than taking a look @ the BH500/210 rig from TC Electronics and it also will fit your budget easily even brand new. you could always add another cab later for the full oomph. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrtVa0oQk1Q I've just picked one up as a back up to my Staccato and it's absolutely awesome! Not as lightweight as the RH stuff but half the price and not at all heavy really in fact its definately sooooo much lighter than the Ashdown stuff you mentioned earlier. Don't forget with all the extras like spectracomp and tubetune and you probably won't need to use the other pedals either so less to carry! Mark @ Bass Direct also says it's the best bang for the buck too http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...0+Cabinets.html Hope this helps
Thumbs up for the BH500, great amp and a great price - though I plumped for the 2x12 cab instead of the 2x10!
5. Hi, my name's Dan and I'm looking to form/or join a hard rock covers band. Have been in various and many different bands over the years so feel that I'm a fairly well-rounded player. My influences range from Led Zep, Chili Peppers, Faith No More, King's X, The Who, Lizzy, Rush, Maiden, Van Halen, Satriani, Mr Big, also with such bands as Muse, Foo Fighters etc along with loads of 80's and 90's rock! If you fancy having a listen to some of my playing - please go to http://www.myspace.com/danthemanonbass. Cheers!
6. For the first time in 20 years of playing I've actually gone and tried an amp in a shop, popped into Andertons in Guildford this morning with a drummer friend of mine and tested the Tc Bh500, liked it so much I bought it there and then! First impressions were very good, not a transparent sound as such but I can hear more of the character of my Spector than I did with my old Ashdown and that was with both the bass and amp set flat. Have been playing with it since I got home a few hours ago and while not as versatile as the rh450 , I'm very happy with the sounds I can dial up. Cracking piece of kit and definitely value for money! Dan
7. There are some decent apps coming available now, just got an iRig last week and am using both the Gallien Krueger one and the Amplitube one which has a track slowing feature, bloomin' marvellous!
8. Nice vids dude, used to cover King's X and Living Colour in a band years ago! Keep up the good work!
9. Sorry dude, not looking to trade as I've got me eye on another amp in one of the local music shop round here!
10.
Or you can daisy chain cabs (subject to ohms etc) if your cab has input/output sockets like my EBS 410's do...
You can daisy chain cabs? 20 years of playing and I didn't have a scooby doo about that! Knew I should've paid attention in Electronics class at school...doh!
11. As I'm after a different sound to go with my new(-ish) bass, I am selling my Ashdown MAG 300w 2x10" combo and 2x10" bass extension cab, it's a very loud setup when all together! They're UK manufactured, since I bought the amp and cab - I think they have moved production to the far east! This is the original version of the MAG combo not the EVOII version. Am including in the price, a proper Ashdown amp cover as well! Power Output (RMS) - 307W Power Requirement - 230 / 115V Speaker Configuration - 2 x 10" speaker + tweeter Frequency Response - -3dB at 17Hz and 30KHz Speaker Outputs - Minimum impedance 4 Ohms High Instrument Input - Impedance 3.9MOhms / Input range 150mV - 20V p-p Low Instrument Input - Impedance 10KOhms / Input range 300mV - 40V p-p Line Input - Impedance 22k Ohms / Input level 0dBu nominal DI Output - 600 Ohms balanced / Level -20dBu nominal Tuner Output - Impedance 22k Ohms, level 0dBu nominal Signal to noise - Better than 80dB (EQ flat) EQ Bass +/-15dB @ 100Hz Lo Mid +/-15dB @ 220Hz Middle +/-15dB @ 660Hz Hi Mid +/-15dB @ 1.6kHz Treble +/-15dB @ 7kHz shelving Deep +8dB @ 50Hz Bright +10dB @ 10kHz Effects Send - Impedance 22k Ohms, level 0dBu nominal Effects Return - Impedance 22k Ohms / Level 0dBu nominal Distortion - Less than 0.5% THD H x W x D (mm) - 581 x 610 x 335 Weight (kg) - 35 And here's my Ashdown cab...rated @ 200w and again is from the original MAG cab range not the EVOII. Obviously due to the weight, collection only I'm based in Horsham, West Sussex - cash or paypal accepted! Amp - £150 Cab - £90 Or both together £215! Cheers Dan
12. Hi, have been looking at a replacement for my Ashdown and have come across the TC Electronic BH500, it says you can connect various cabs to it but I've had a look at the rear panel and there's only one output (speakon type)? I'm a tad confused! Dan
13. Is it quite heavy to cart around, Dave? I used to have a Trace Elliot head and that was a wee bit on the heavy side!
14. After seeing Thombassmonkey's quite frankly lovely GK mini-setup I'd been looking at the MB500 and I then stumbled across the Backline 600 head, just wondered if anybody's got one of these beasties or had experience of 'em? cheers Dan
15. Looks like I'll have to make a visit to GAK this sat to try some out!
16.
Strictly speaking, the MB500 isn't "the one down" from the Fusion, they're very similar, just the Fusion has the valve pre, the MB500 is solid state. IIRC the Fusion has an extra option or two (like the limiter, I don't think the 500 has) but they're very similar sounding amps with mostly the same controls. I don't like Ashdowns, I've never heard one that I haven't thought was either wooly or thin and obviously I'm a huge GK fanboy so if I were you, I wouldn't even be thinking about moving from Ashdown to GK, mostly because I'd already have a GK in my posession and the Ashdown sold. Especially if your back's giving you grief, this rig weighs a total of (according to GK's site) about 125lbs. I'd feel easily confident gigging with one cab and the head at about 65lbs, which isn't very much for such a powerful and versatile beast.
Ah, so the difference is mainly the Fusion has the valve pre...hmmm, interesting. Lol, yes I've struggled in the five years I've had the Ashdown to get a usuable sound (and in that time I've been in a variety of bands which included one guitar, two guitars, two guitars and keyboard...etc) and wooly and undefined is definitely the words I'd use. Unfortunately I'd bought it on the assumption that because of the connection with them being some of the original engineers from Trace Elliot that their amps sounded similar...doh! Always liked the sound of GK amps mainly because of growing up listening to the rock/metal guys in the early '90's like Duff, Flea,Eddie Jackson (Queensryche) etc
17. lovely set up there, Thom!* I'm thinking about getting the one down from the Fusion, which I think is the MB500 as I'm fed up of trying of get a decent sound out of my Ashdown (and because my back's been giving me gip for a few months now!) *edited due to flippin' iPad spellcheck!
18. First bass owned: Encore P bass copy Go to bass: Spector Legend Custom 4 Your bass: Spector Legend Custom 4!
19. Spector revamped the Performer range at the beginning of this year, I think you've got this type (see bottm of page on this link) http://http://www.spectorbass.com/about/model_years_4P.html
20. If I'm not mistaken Paul Turner of Jamiroquai... Brian May bass? WTF? JPJ signature model nuff said!
21. Here's some of my pics from saturday... Starting off with some lovely Status' or is it Statii?! Billy Sheehan's new Attitude III I REALLY liked the sound of the HyDrive cabs!
22. We went yesterday (though wasn't sure what line we should've been waiting in cos of the Doctor Who exhibition...lol) I was initially impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the BGM staff - even renewed my subscription. As a few peeps have already mentioned, the amount of slap bass going on and the volume was ridiculous - took me back to the shows @ Wembley Conference centre in the early '90's, as we were walking in the first main culprits we picked up on was the Trace Elliot stand, damn those amps move some air! Oh and the Ampeg and GK stands as well, I understand your amps are loud but do ya have to turn them up that much? The majority of the booths we liked, the MM one was of course one of the best with the headphones set up, loved the Status Graphite stand, had a quick look at Phil Mann's playing and the bloke on the Rotosound one (Nigel Cluuterbuck?), the new Yamahas looked lush as well! Nice to see both the Bass Merchant and Bass Direct chaps there also...but was not impressed with the First Line Distribution booth, was really looking forward to seeing some lovely Spectors, the DR Neon strings and even having a butchers at some Eden stuff but how small and dark was their stand - were they not that bothered about showing their products? And it felt like everytime I went to have a closer look - either one of the guys from the stand had to get past me or there was some endorsee and his mates hanging around so couldn't get near! Have found out since Cass Lewis, BC's very own Dood and some other peeps were making appearances at various stands - maybe next year this info could be centralised or maybe in the program as from mid-afternoon we stayed out of the main exhibition hall. Oooops! But overall really enjoyed it - will definitely be at the next one, my other half who came with me even got a bit starstruck when Mark King walked past us!
