1. Thanks for everyones help,. I've been PM'd by someone who will sort all my problems. Cheers Ash.
 2.
Brand new Fender stuff is about 9mm high but it's probably a bit springier than the air foam, and it'll depend how high you want your pickups. Put a few layers in and see if it works I guess!
Ok trial and error it is. Thanks for everyones help. Ash
 3.
I've used all kinds of leftover foam over the years, some loses it's springyness really quickly but if you put the right amount in and don't need to adjust the height of your pickups too much it works fine. Best free stuff is the whitish / clear foam that feels like it has air in it, used as packing on edges of kitchen worktops and sometimes it's layered up to make it thicker.
I think i know the stuff you mean. just cut it to size and how thick would it need to be, 1 inch or so.
 4.
Hi Ash Re the pickup height adjustment, sounds to me like either there is no foam rubber underneath it, or if there is, its lost all its "sponginess". Way forward is try and find some from somewhere. These guys are very good, http://www.efoam.co.uk/foamshapes.php?cp_n...CFdD-2AodDnBdOg Dunno what thickness you`d need, maybe other posters have that info, or contact Fender directly? When I`ve bought Fender pickups before, it seemed that the foam padding was about 2cm/1inch thick. Lozz
Ok cheers will need to have a proper look, make sure no foam there but i never seen any when i had a quick look. Ash
 5.
The pickups probably have black spongy stuff under them (on a copper earthing plate in the pickup recess) and if the pickup has been lowered so much for a long time it may have lost it's springyness. You may need to completely remove the pickups and replace the foam, although the old stuff may recover it's shape eventually. Have a look in the Repairs and Technical area of this forum, there's a list of parts suppliers (pinned at the top) who will have replacement Fender scratchplates, although I'd be tempted to try to fix the original if possible if the bass has a roadworn mojo look about it.
Ok cheers, will need to have a proper inspection. It certainly has a road worn look about it.
 6.
Most pbasses have foam under the pups to lift them when you adjust....the ones on this bass are probably perished and have lost their elasticity.
I took scratchplte off to have a look just the screws there, no foam. What kind of foam is it? can you but it anywhere. Ash
 7. I have just got myself a 78P Bass. Which seems to have had quite a hard life. The pick ups are sitting practically level with the scratchplate and need raised. However when i raise the pickup screws they lift up but the pickup remains still. I thought there might be a spring over the screw, behind the pickup to help raise the pickup but any diagram i have seen has no spring. Can anyone help me resolve this problem. Also the scratchplate is cracked and needs replacing, where would be the best place to get a replacement. Oh i forgot to say it's a lefty. Apart from these two problems and a decent set-up, it plays and sounds fantastic. Thanks for any help Ash.
 8.
What do you mean by satellite mode? Are all the speaker cones working? But it sounds like they are If my memory is correct the Actors are 3 cabs a side, active bin, a passive bin and a mid top active box, I beleave the crossover for the subs is in the bin itself not 100% sure though. Is the mid top cab ok without going through the Subs? You could take the amps out and check for any loose connections and blown fuses anything other than that use a qualified engineer. It also could be the crossover.
I think i have caused some confusion here. What we where using is a pair of full range active speaker[see below].One of which did not work in normal full range mode. But when linked to the other working full range speaker as you would if it were a bass bin worked o.k. although not full power as it was acting as a bass bin. I hope this clears up any confusion. 9.
I would think it’s the amp as there is no sound from the speaker and if it was the input there should be a slight hum or hiss, unless the other speaker is silent without anything plugged in
there is a slight hiss from the ok one. If it was the amp, surely there would be no sound when we wired it up as a bass bin either. but it worked ok then.
 10.
That tells me your speakers are both OK. What sort of setup do you have? Mixer amp/ powered mixer or separate mixer and power amp? If it's the latter, check the patch cables between desk and amp, swap them over and see if the problem moves to the other speaker. If it does, the problem's in your patch cables. If that makes no difference, swap the patch cables at one end only and see if the problem moves. If it does, the problem's in your mixer, if not, it's your amp. HTH A We have powered speakers, wired straight into desk. tried different cables, still dead and new power cables, still no sound untill we used the speaker as a bass bin which requires the use of a different input, so i suspect the original input is where the fault is.
 11.
My advice to you would be check all the fuses plus the mains lead, as I can gather from your post the speaker is working so if it is not a fuse it needs to go in for repair, as to what it is I doubt if you will get an answer without someone qualified having a look. I think the PA is active speakers so do the cabs fire up? If Yes check inputs with a mic or CD,MP3 player if no, check all the fuses plus the mains lead, as I can gather from your post the speaker is working so if it is not a fuse it needs to go in for repair, as to what it is I doubt if you will get an answer without someone qualified having a look.
yes it is a powered speaker. powered up ok, no sound, not even a hiss. swapped leads, still no sound, then swapped power cable this blew circuit-breaker. Re-set powered up ok again but still no sound. We then wired it up as a bass bin from other speaker worked fine. I think it must be a problem with xlr input.
 12. At our gig on friday, we wired up the P.A. and on powering up noticed that only one side was working, not even any hiss could be heard. Changed speaker leads, no change. Then tried changing power lead which blew circuit breaker, re-set it and tried new power lead again still nothing. So we ended up using the damaged speaker as a bass bin in satalite mode off of functioning speaker, worked fine. Does anyone have any idea where to start looking for the problem. Will it be on the xlr input. p.s speakers are HK Aktors Thanks in advance Ash.
 13. Or you could do what our guitarist done. He had won some Marshall amp for a really good price seller obviously not happy, ignored all communication and re-listed amp a week later. Guitarist put in a massive bid at the last minute. Won item, did not pay, ignored communication for about a week, then sent an email saying, annoying isn't it.
 14.
I'm in a band with just one guitarist. Some times I'd like a second one to pop in for a few bars then bugger off again.
get yourself a Akai unibass. Then you become the rhythm guitarist. Great piece of kit for a three piece.
 15. Couldn't have been any more helpful if he tried. Bought a Mark Bass stand, and wouldn't cash the cheque till i was satisfied with it. Can't be fairer than that. Cheers Ash.
 16.
That was the second song at my first gig, we were obsessed by SLF, the bands name was Back to Front, which we played as well. Dave
So were we, SLF and the Clash think we played 8 songs 4 from each band.
 17. 1980 buccleugh hall Langham 15yrs old Gotta getaway by S.L.F. Could never get the bass solo bit right after the intro, but nailed it that night. Think it was the tartan bondage trousers. Four bands playing all from different villages. Needless to say it ended in a riot, with a pay phone being thrown on stage as the last band were finishing their set. Great night.
 18. Can anyone tell me the size of screw to attach the speaker to the Eden Metro. Thanks Ash.
 19. Ok cheers, bass players think we know every thing.
 20. While in the pub with the band the other night, our sound man said that you dont need speaker cable for powered speakers, because the amps were inside the speaker so no high voltages were travelling through the cables. I thought he was wrong but didn't say anything at the time, because i would get the your just the bass player reply as usual. Can any one clarify this, in simple terms, remember because i'm just the bass player. Cheers Ash
