No disappointment here - it’s good to hear that things are coming together for you and you are getting to appreciate the massive difference IEMs make and why all bands should be heading in that direction. As far as your choice of IEMs, the key thing is that dynamic in the low. That should give you that all important headroom that a single balanced armature can’t do very well. The harsh/loudness is probably down to the tuning of the IEM and the fact that it’s not got a driver dedicated to the midrange. The BA may be a compromise between the highs and the mids or dedicated to the mids and not so good at delivering smooth highs. In reality, I don’t know - I’m just guessing... but the key thing is, you've got something that is closer to what you need out of the box and gives you a closer starting point to fine tune with the aux EQ. This is all good reading though - and as you say, when you factor the cost of what a monitor is and what you could achieve in ease of transport and quality of monitoring, it all starts to make total sense.

Budget IEM systems - looking for recommendations!

The xvive will do a great job - but remember it’s limitation of being mono and be aware of latency in a digital setup. Watch out for that cumulative latency! -
Servisol only works as long as the pots aren't sealed. You'll need to have a little letter box on the pots to be able to get servisol (via a straw) inside. I'm not sure if the Markbass pots have - but hopefully they have. Just wanted to clear up some confusion as to where you may spray it! You'll want Servisol 10.

Sorry - yeah, it's a 9v feed on the EBS are requires a 3 core cable into your bass.
-
Because the current from typical phantom power units won't be enough. EBS use it from their amps so you can power a pedal. There's nothing stopping you from using a similar mechanism for powering your bass if you have a proper power source. I have such a unit for sending power to my LEDs through the jack on one of my basses.

Indeed. Thats what makes the world go round. My opinion is always wrong - and I'm not even married. I'm used to it.
-
I think that you've proven that it isn't! Black for me!
-
Soft start? Basically you are over thinking all of this. It’s no different to plugging a bass into an amp that’s already on. Turn the bass on before you power the amp. Jeez. It’s like I’ve stumbled onto a forum full of guitarists and drummers.

THAT Andertons deal for the RH750...can I do better?

F1 cars aren't too hot in fields either. -

Quite possibly. It rendered OK on my screen when I posted it so give it about zero attention... but hey, you still clicked on it! -

Now that is what you call a whataboutism. -

The fascination with watts always amuses me. What are we looking at? Soldering? -
There’s nothing wrong with phantom. It isn’t gonna kill you.

I mean, pulling a jack out of a socket is pretty radical, right?

I can't help but think this thread is going end up making an appearance...

I've thought of quite a cool solution - sometimes the most obvious ones are the ones that are overlooked. How about changing a pot to a push pull pot to break the circuit to the battery. Done.
-
Guess it depends upon the bass in question - but if you have a rear cavity cover, a little flush slider switch would suit the bill quite nicely. (Assuming that you don't forget to slide it to turn it off!)
-
And then there's Amazon Prime. (granted it's one way... but it's only a matter of time)

If you've got a problem, and if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the Outlaws MC. I hear a kneecapping can be had for a very reasonable price.

Pedal power supply using 18V tool battery
EBS_freak replied to Aidan63's topic in Repairs and Technical
*sigh* -
I would wager it's very low. Most people do one off shipments of items of great value. Bass Direct will have a corporate account - that probably allows for a greater level of care.

In my case, the goods were lost at the airport. The claim was with Parcel Force. They tried to weasel out of it saying that it was FedEx and I should take it up with them. I simply said, I don't have a contract with FedEx, no tracking details or anything for them... no contact details or anything. They even said that it was probable that one of their staff walked out of the airport with it - and they don't cover that. Some of the things that they were saying to me was just plain ridiculous. Fortunately for me, I had a bad feeling about it all from the start, so documented the whole wrapping process. In the end of it all, I was out of pocket to the tune of an excess and Peli case. Just took me 5 months to see it through to resolution. God only knows how many days (yes days worth of hours) it took me going backwards and forwards.

I had a hell of a game on a £1100 claim. Put it like this, absolutely everything is stacked against you. Bouncing emails, out of office messages with no forwarding addresses, their own valuation figures based on items that have no resemblance to those lost etc etc... Absolute hell.

Pedal power supply using 18V tool battery
EBS_freak replied to Aidan63's topic in Repairs and Technical
I was referring to the Donner power supply - if the input is 18v DC being powered off the battery which the OP is talking about, there's only one transformer or regulator in play to bring it down the 9v. I would be very surprised if you have any noise problems with that as there is no AC transformer in play. I get what you're saying saying though - but unbalanced runs from a pedalboard are unlikely to be a problem (and the most likely candidate would be a long cable run from your cable to the board, or board to your amp) and if you have noise leakage on a battery supplied source from a digital delay, there's a fundamental problem with the screening in the design of the pedal. Ive yet to find a noisy pedal battery powered board - whether it's all powered from one unit... or all units individually powered. It's ok to say "it's possible" - but in reality, it's not going to be a problem.
