Yeah my feeling is to leave it. Its metal and the E is dropped to D. I have a heavier gauge on it at the moment and I have to contend with 2 other guitars

I'm due in the studio on Thursday (Damn I love saying that, in reality its someones shed and a laptop) and I've had my string on for about a month. I can't make my mind up, do I go for the nicely worn in strings or get a fresh set on there? Baring in mind its dropped tunings anyway. Also I have the choice between Rotosound or D'Addario, what do you guys think? Ta

Overall its not my type of music but some great bass lines and the recordings good. Sometimes the guitar seems to get louder, I would have kept it even. PEOPLE HAVE GOT tO CHECK IT OUT IF ONLY FOR THE BASS GROOVES!

I've entered the music busniess late after years of pretty much just playing in my bedroom, I'm 31. Things look to be kicking off for our band now but fortunatley the other guys are on massive wages and have families and so have no intentions of making it a full time commitment or bow down to a labels demands which means I feel I've struck gold in that respect. If the band DID become full time, I would have to bow out gracefully. My wife would obviously say I should stick with it but I just don't think its fair on her working full time and taking care of a VERY hyper 2 year old. Plus theres to much at stake spends wise. I thing its a little easier if you meet your partner after you've established yourself then the expectation is there but to drasticly change the lifestyles of yourself and partner and kids is just unfair. Bare in mind I am speaking from a family that already struggles to make ends meet. If your wife was some kind of high flying entrepreneur and theres no money worries go for it!

Morning all Has anybody used one of thses for bass? I'm going in to the studio next week and the guitarist is using it and asked if I wanted too. Personally I rather use my Markbass amp so that I sound like me plus I really don't know much about amps to choose one from the menu. El Bajo

Saw them on Prognation tour with Dream Theater. they where the surprise hit of the night and I put a couple of CDs of the back of it. really like them and as the years have passed by the bass seems to have become more prominent and melodic. really good band. Not got the latest yet though.

Usually my eyes roll at these kind of things but this was is truly bad, even the vidoes aren't that good with the exception of a couple. John Entwiestles is pretty good and I quite enjoyed the Flea one mainly becasue I enjoyed Chad Smiths playing. I've never rated him that highly in the grand scheme of the drumming world but he's actually a good solid rock drummer.

The beginning makes me want to go to Japan Godda love them for the cheese factor. It got boring, I managed to get halfway through.

Hi all Last week at practice I noticed that when I played my E string dropped to D it sounded a bit distorted but thought nothing of it becasue the guitarist messed around with the knobs when he plugged his ipod into to it show me a bass line he'd recorded. I figured the bass was just clipping and there was only 10 mins left of practice so I though just get on with it... Anyway at home practice I play through my headphones in a small practice amp due to the 2 year old sleeping and I found the sound to still be distorted and when i really dig in or slap it cust out the sound. Changed battery to no avail. Any thoughts?

I have 3. One lives in the living room for those 5 minutes before work where I can have a mess about. It knackered so i don;t mind of my 2 year old kicks about the living room. The new 4 string got played alot recently in the band, but it was only ever goingto be back up so thats now back on the rack tuned to standard tuning to be used for non band practice stuff. The 6 string is the band bass. So yep they all get played fairly evenly.

I do it when i stumped for ideas. Generally when the gweetar is mainly chordal and I don't want to just go dum dum dum dum on the root

Whats wrong withthe minor pentatonic? Rage made how many albums by playing that scale? As well as countless bands. Don't be so hard on yourself, sounds like you;ve just reached a plateau, we all do at some point. Most advice I would give has already been said. What I do when I reached this stage is just learn songs. Motown helped me, its not what I'm into, but it taught me less can be more and a sense of groove. Also stop learning scales. Its boring and only make your playing scaley. Chord tones are the way forward, all other notes are just filler (unless its a riff orientated song). Just my opinion.

Nice KinBollock. It doesn't matter that you can't play the things he plays. What matters is that you tried and you took something away from it, its now sat in your subconscious library of bass . You've just been influenced. I'm couldn't care less about the solo bits, I prefer the groove underneath it. It just secreates coooollllness

Those Clovers are beautiful basses Do what you want. Its never a case of 'I have too many strings for the job'. I play in a metal band at the moment and I pretty much just use the B and E string but I've playing that bass non stop for 6 years so its just what I'm used too. (and it looks cool and I get no sh*t about how easy bass is becasue its only got 4 strings ). The rythm guitarist doubles me most of the time, I don't see him taking of his unused strings. Besides you may use that C string for one song, but it may be an important component of the song. You will certainly start seeing your self experiment more.

Hi Ianark. Depends. its hard to say unless we know what level you are at. how long have you been playing? Is it an originals band? When the guitarist talks theory do you look at him with a blank expression? If a note is called out do you know where it is? Personally I don't practice scales that often anymore becasue I think knowing chord forms/tones and interval sounds are more important. With scales I tend to switch of and follow the pattern without taking in what I'm actually doing. Best thing that I did to help my musical knowledge was try and read music. If you can get hold of some basic sheet music of the net give it a go. Its slow and frustrating but after a while you get the hang of it. I wouldn't bother to much with exercises unless you really do have some weaknesses in your technique, just use the band songs for warm ups. Also, if you're fed up with the style you're playing, have a go at something else such as Funk. I'm playing around with Jamaraq and early Incubus Love it.

Passed the audition without tuning down I think I might be able to get away without it and it may even make things more interesting, it might make me think of alternative riffs to play if I can't match the guitars...we will see. But for now I'm happy.

Thats what i'm thinking, just a budget one thats got good reviews such as a Squire or Yamaha. Lets see if I get the gig first

Got my audition tonight and have not learned one sing properly . Tried playing some songs last night with a dropped E string and its easier but if I want to move away and play something more adventurous I've no idea where I am anymore!!!! It should be interesting, and a little embarrassing. If I don't get it I'll only have myslef to blame!!!

Yeah I will see what they say, and what tunings they are at, The guitarist even hinted that they may go lower, maybe I can influence them to keep going lower to B hehe. Thanks
