As with all my designs the J112 requires not only specific T/S specs but also specific driver response. You should be posting your question at http://billfitzmaurice.net/phpBB3/, with links to the driver data sheets showing the manufacturer's axial response charts.
Bill doesn't like discussing his designs anywhere but on his own, tightly controlled website where nobody can ask embarrassing questions like, why exactly do you want to build a mid horn for your bass guitar?

changing speakers/customising cab - advice please
stevie replied to ray_6ao7's topic in Amps and Cabs
Congrats, Ray - a job well done. I'd be happy with a pair of those drivers and you've got eight. -
Not a gig but when practicing at home in my teens I used to sit on my bed with the headstock of my bass against a big wooden headboard that I used as a sound-board. Sounded pretty good but was rather uncomfortable.
This definitely gets my vote!
+1. Group delay is inaudible in the non-directional frequencies, for the same reason that they are non-directional.
Lots of strongly held opinions here but not much evidence (make that no evidence). This is not the scientific way, guys. It isn't so just cos you say so.
In 1997 Robin Cook tried the idea of an ethically responsible foreign policy and scrapped the idea in a matter of weeks.
Not much point in having an ethical foreign policy while you are about to invade a number of foreign countries. But God bless Robin Cook, I say. He may have been a philanderer, but his resignation speech was magnificent, and surprisingly honest for a politician.
Where basic bass reflex boxes are concerned the fEarful are as good as any commercial offerings, and better than most. I'd be hard pressed to name a commercial cab that's as well engineered, or even close to it for that matter. I've also recently prototyped a couple of 12/6 cabs for a manufacturer, similar to the fEarful 12/6, using the 3012HO driver. They're nice cabs, a lot better than the high priced 'boutique' 1x12s out there. OTOH side by side with my Jack 112 loaded with a only a 2512 they're very much also-rans. You can only do so much with a bass reflex box.
Such a wonderful example of damning with faint praise.
I actually have a set of these Stevie, although I've only used them for rehearsals, they seemed alright. I might try them at a gig, but I suppose I was always a bit mistrustful of Behringer gear for pro applications.
I was going to say, if they're not your cup of tea, they will always be useful as a backup, but it looks like you had that idea first. I agree that Behringer is very much a mixed bag but some of their stuff is certainly comparable with the specialist brand names.
I had one of those (or was it the same one MB?) and it didn't have a horn.
Indeed, but it did sound very nice in the upper frequency range.

You can get a set of 3 Behringer XM8500s for £40, which will at least get you going quickly. I've heard from a number of sources that these are comparable with Shure SM58s, but I've no personal experience of them. This guy certainly thinks so: http://www.humanbeatbox.com/microphones/p2_articleid/181. The price is definitely right, and I'm sure plenty of users on here will have an opinion on them.

Newbie guide: Precision Vs Jazz - according to Fender - Vid

What a couple of complete wallies! -
PS Stevie, the castors on this are recessed into the bottom edge of the cab, and use smooth 'roller-blade' wheels- makes the cab so much easier to move!
Cheers, Etienne. Sounds like a neat idea. I'll take a look at their website to see exactly what they have done.
Great bass player and all round musician there are some good bass lines in Chas and Dave songs.
Most definitely!

I can't help then in that case. A completely dead speaker is an open circuit of some kind. I'd check the continuity from the input panel to the speaker and also the lead-out wires that go from the connection lugs to the cone - just in case. If it's not that, the break is in the coil, which is hidden and therefore terminal. You've got a bump though.
Can anyone tell me how the 80s ones compare to the current reissues? Heavier? Different sound? I love my new BB614 so interested to know the difference.
I was able to compare my 1980s BB to a very early JV Precision (now sold) and I didn't prefer one over the other sound-wise. The Yamaha is slightly lighter than the Fender but I wouldn't call it a lightweight bass. No idea how they compare with the new ones though.

Just an advanced warning that my BB1100S will be up for sale shortly - as soon as I've taken some photos.

A polite message to the seller is not going to do any harm, is it? Just ask for a progress report on your order, as you have heard nothing so far. However, you should have received an automatic email from eBay right after "winning" (ho ho ho) the auction. The good sellers make contact within 24 hours but many others don't bother.
Sent Ashdown an email, still waiting for a response, so in the meantime I still have this bass available for a swap for a replacement speaker.
Do you get a kind of a 'fuzz box' sound when you play through the speaker? I might have the solution.
I have inherited a set of JBL eon passive speakers, problem is one of them is making a loud buzzing noise when connected to PA. I think the PA amp may have caused the problem as that has been blown as well. As I said I inherited this system so I knew it's condition before I had it. I would like to fix this as when working it does sound great. Any help would be greatly appreciated Ta very glad Dale
More detail needed. What do you mean 'when connected to the PA'? When playing music through the PA or not? Have you tried the speakers on different amp channels?

Sounds like an interesting project. It's funny how British singers just can't get a handle on the accent. It never sounds right and can be quite excruciating sometimes. Not for me - I'm too far away - but good luck with it.
