1. These were made for guitar but should do well for bass too. They sound like a typical vintage Fender amp. They are easy to overdrive (giving you the 'crunch' tone) but you also get a clean, bell-like Fender amp tone with the gain control down. The power stage is about ten watts - so it will drive a speaker directly without any problem (although it also functions as a preamp, of course).
2.
Difference from a 97db cab to a 103dc cab with the same ohmage will be significant, from what I`ve read on here.
That would be a valid point if you could trust the manufacturers' specifications. Unfortunately, most of them are not very honest here. Efficiency is closely related to cabinet size, at least below 200Hz where it counts. A good big 'un and all that .....
3. I do believe Voxpop is looking for one of these in the Wanted section.
4.
It is the positioning of the pups that contribute so much..esp P-bass, IMO.
I'm not convinced by this argument (which seems to be commonly held). I think the position of the pickup mainly affects the amount of low end it generates. The design of the pickup itself seems to have a much greater influence on its character. The difference between the P and Jazz is probably down to the geometry of the coil, for example. If you don't believe me, listen to a Strat. Three pickups in quite different positions, each one sounding just like a Strat.
5. Does anyone have a transcription of the bass line on Elkie Brook's version of 'Fool if you think it's over'? A midi file would be even better. I've been playing the Chris Rea version from a midi file, but the bass on the Elkie Brook's recording is tastier (Joe Hubbard, maybe?). Notes not tab, please.
6. You could try moving your cabinet to a different part of the room (not as daft as it sounds, I can assure you).
7. I believe (simply from reading on here) that, when they go wrong, they are not easy to repair, i.e. the usual fix is to swap out the main board, which can be expensive. No doubt someone with hands-on experience will confirm or deny this in due course.
8. Why does this company think that musicians who have been happy with one basic sound for 50 years (OK, two at a stretch) are now suddenly going to want 15 million sounds? Even guitarists have been happy with a Strat and a Les Paul, maybe a Tele at a push, for decades. This is a product looking for a market that isn't there. The Gamechanger thing is just embarrassing. IMO, of course.
9. Adrian bought a Jazz Bass pickup from me. It was a very easy and straightforward sale and Adrian was a pleasure to do business with.
10.
My MM is 14.5 inches from centre of the pick up to the 12th fret along the centre line.
That's 368 millimetres - nearly an inch more than what Pete measures.
11.
According to the bathroom scales, which are notorious liars this time of the year, reckon the bass is just under 10lbs. So not that light.
Yes, those scales seem to have a mind of their own after Christmas. Unfortunately, 10lbs means that I'm out. Fantastic bargain for someone though.
12.
Not sure about weight Stevie. Will a bathroom scale weigh in do? Can always pop round and have a bash?
Yes, a bathroom scales measurement would be fine. By the time I can get over there, it will probably be sold. Still, I'm figuring out what I could sell to raise the money.
13. That's very tempting. What does the bass weigh?
14. Bought a pair of speakers from Richard, who very kindly sent them off first-class post. Very easy chap to deal with and comes through with what he promises. Thanks.
15. Bought a pickup from Rich, which was well packed, despatched promptly and exactly as described. Buy with confidence!
16. Bought a keyboard from me. No hassles. Easy transaction. Recommended.
17. Just noticed that Luke has a feedback thread. Sold him a Precision a couple of years ago for a not inconsiderable amount of money. Payment was prompt and Luke was a pleasure to deal with. Better late than never :-) Stevie
18. I swapped the fan in my Trace AH-300 because it was noisy. It was relatively easy to do. The fan connecting wires were held in by two small screw clamps attached to a circuit board. The only awkward part was having to move the power amp board because it was stopping me from getting my screwdriver into the the clamps when I came to replace the wires. When buying a new fan, choose one that has a similar consumption to the one you are replacing. In other words, if the original one is 0.1W, that's what you should be looking for. The best place to buy them is a specialist computer store. I recently bought a Panaflo for about £3.50 from Scan computers. The good ones aren't very expensive - so go for a respected brand. It really is pointless soldiering on with a duff fan when they are so cheap and easy to swap. There are plenty of tales on the web of duff Trace Elliot fans causing the output transistors to blow up. Depending on the output trannies, the repair can be well over £100.
19. Not only that, but 3.9 ohms is a preferred value and therefore much easier to obtain than 4 ohms.

21.
any idea what speakers are in this?
I think it's loaded with eight tens.
22. Quick bump before I change my mind......
23. Photos as requested. It might look like the Starship Enterprise but it's fairly straightforward really.
