1. I always use 2x210 for gigs because they're much easier for me to load-in without help. Also they're considersably louder than an equivalent 410, I guess due to 0hms and height. A vertical 210 stack is just huge sounding, and has the benefit of smaller stage footprint. However I've switched back to a single 410 (on casters!) for my rehearsal rig, as it takes up less storage space and is plenty loud enough in that context.
  2. Yep, gotta love straddling too...
  3.
Phew! And a couple of side-trim panels for the cab to make it the same width as the amp?
Its the right width already. Just needs to be on its side with another one on top
  4.
Looks awesome Merton! I'm going to start gigging my CTM 300 and ABM NEO 210 setup next month, but sadly my CTM is flightcased so the cab will have to be sideways
I always gig my CTM on top of 2 ABM NEO cabs stacked sideways. The logo orientation doesn't detract from the overall awesomeness. And those cabs really do sound good with that amp. I think Ashdown might have stopped making them tho, as the NEO range aren't on their website at the moment.
  5. I have a Stingray HH and a Yamaha 2024. Both are growly/snarly - but the Yamaha has the edge. It has a darker tone overall and usually sits better in the mix. There's never any problems EQing the Yamaha - whereas the Stingray is a constant fight between boom and clank. Of course that might just be me!
  6.
Here's my question. Why is it we need amps of several hundred watts or even thousands and, more to the point, why do we need higher SPL from the speaker than that very modest amp will provide ? What is it that all you guys are doing that means you need such high sound levels ? I'm still not sure I get it, after all this time, sorry for being a bit dim here.
For me, its not about needing to be excessively loud onstage (I always match against the un-amplified drum vol) but you don't need to play many ordinary gig venues before you realise that a low-powered rig will come up short on some occasions, whereas a decent 500w amp will see you right pretty much anywhere. The fact is that, in most venues, you get what you're given in terms of PA (and sometimes there isn't a full PA at all, even if you're told there is one, due to things being unexpectedly swapped about), or the venue develops weird acoustics when the place fills up, or there's no room onstage for suitable monitor placement, or the sound guy has sloped off for a smoke mid set - or whatever. But if you've got more on tap (within reason of course), its going to be a more enjoyable gig than if you're stuck not hearing a thing.
  7. I have the CTM 100 also. Fantastic sounding amp - natural tone to die for. All things being equal, I'd have gone for the 300 but just too damn heavy to be practical for me. However I can say for sure that the 100 is plenty loud enough for gigging (in a loud band) accepting that it gets a little snarly - in a good way - when cranked. So I'm not sure the 100 would run "clean" at gigging back-line volume - but I think its intended to get the grit from the powerstage before being overwhelmingly loud. Its not like full-on fuzzy at that level (unless you bump the gain also), but there is a definite bite going on. I guess the 300 might be better if you either want clean/warm all the way up, or playing especially large venues (or have no concerns about the weight issue!!). But the 100 is fine for small-medium gigs. Its worth saying that the EQ is subtle to say the least (and that's being nice about it).I find it benefits from an external EQ when using a passive bass (not with an active one), because convincing two marshalled-up guitarists to tweak their usual settings (to accommodate where it sits in the mix) is just too much like hard work. I'm sure the EQ would be fine if you can get the rest of the band to shift over a little bit!
  8.
But the problem is not volume, it's audibility.
Fair enough. But at least no one’s mentioned EQ shelving or we’d end up with a sideboard.
  9.
It's a triumph of function over form!
...and handy for selling the bass rig at a car boot sale when the next GAS attack comes along. But personally, I'd leave it on the floor and just turn it up a notch. Its not like a 1000w Ashdown with a barefaced cab is likely to struggle with headroom.

I'll see how well it works .
We've hit the point where I've stopped being jealous of your rig. That's a £29.99 GAS killer!

    Stack help!
I`d look at two of the same cab - that way you can use one for rehearsals/small gigs, then stack it out for the larger ones, with no need to re-eq. Getting a great sound from a great cab, then in effect doubling it by adding in the same cab again is a great experience. And what is more classic rock than eight ten-inch speakers?
+1, If you need two cabs, go two of the same. Hardly anyone buys 410+115 any more, as the technology and production methods mean that you don't need to have different sized speakers, and a lot of folk here will cite various disadvantages of mix and match. Also, depending how much you have to move your gear, shifting an average sized 410 can be a chore - especially if you don't have help. After loads of (expensive) trial and error, I've settled on 2x210 - which is damn loud, looks cool and easy to carry.
  12.
Bit of a long shot but don't suppose I could tempt you with an oversized Les Paul Gibson.
Sorry for the slow reply - only just spotted the comment - no thank you, I don't think that would be quite my thing. Thanks anyway.
  13.
It may be of interest that the Bass lounge have for sale a ABM 2 x 10 neo combo The head is normally £695 & cab £540 , I have the head & it's flipin fantastic , you could also take the head out of the combo & get a rack kit for it .
I was sent 210 NEO combo by mistake when I ordered my NEO cabs. I had it out of the box to check it out before being good and returning it - it took some serious willpower to give it back
  14. I have 2 ABM NEO 210s, and they are top notch cabs. The latest batch are sealed 1000w versions but mine are ported and rated at 500w. I'd say one would be enough for most situations. Two together are immense.
  15.
Damn. That's the one I want. I don't suppose it's a SLO neck, is it?
Its a regular Stingray neck, not the slo version. Per usual, its unvarnished (with gun-oil rub). Still for sale!
  16.
What amp are you using with them? I'm interested in these and in Leicester. Any chance of a meet up?
PM'd
  17. Anyone want to swap their (good condition) ABM 410 for my 2 x 210s ?
  18.
How do you eq your Ashdown? I bought one here recently but am struggling to set it up to how I like.
Depends on the model and obviously what sound you're after. For an ABM – I always start with the following, and make small adjustments to compensate for the room Disable the “shape” button (button pressed in) and the compressor (if there is one). Bass @ 10oclock Mid: @ 12oclock Treble @ 2 oclock Bump the all the sliders very very slightly A tiny bit of sub octave (just because its there) Healthy amount of gain and drive. Crank it up and rock out.
  19.
Just for clarity, I think you have a rosewood fingerboard on a maple neck rather than a rosewood neck. It might seem picky, but you can get a Stingray with a rosewood neck, but I don't think this is one.
Yes, you are correct - it is a rosewood fingerboard on a standard maple neck. I didn't know they offered a "full" rosewood version, so thanks for clarifying.
