1.
Nigel Planer who played Neil in the Young Ones played Den Denis in Bad News. Adrian Edmonson played Vyvian in the Young Ones and Vim Fuego in Bad News. Vim Fuego: I could play "Stairway To Heaven" when I was 12. Jimmy Page didn't actually write it until he was 22. I think that says quite a lot.
@3:06 http://www.youtube.com/channel/SWTfxveKBwcbQ
 2. Well .......... graphs actually, lots of them - and some statistics wouldn't go amiss either.
 3.
Fine by me......I've only got 350 tiddly little watts to play with.......
My amp only goes to that with a strong wind behind it.
 4. Please can this thread not now be extended into another ego discussion by the usual suspects............ ............ about what bigger drivers, bass thump or extra wattage do or don't do. There's been enough of them for this year.

 6.
If it is the valve, you will need to buy a pair and are then into a whole minefield of choice. I have found JJ to be good and a fair price.
It's reported elsewhere on this forum that recent JJs have been a bit hit or miss on QC. I've asked Watford valves about it & while not commenting they've now pointed me at Gold(en??) Lion valves rather than JJs; both of which they stock.
 7.
What Star Wars figures did they have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've never seen Star Wars so haven't a clue; he laboured the point that many were still in their packets. Though they did have an Airfix Hercules with Bloodhound missile & Land Rover. I was going to tell him "I had one of those when ......." but apparently that phrase is banned in there.
 8.
Any and ALL Christmas songs are either a cynical attempt to cash-in, or a cynical attempt to raise the profile of the contributing artist (in the case of charity singles) If the artists were that convinced of their songs' validity, they'd put them on their mainstream albums. Consider also that whilst they MAY have been written during the Christmas period, I bet they're not recorded at Christmas... I can just see a load of disingenuous muso types trying to be festive in a sweaty studio in the middle of summer...
Well I certainly agree that "FTW" was done mainly to revive Geldof's flagging career; probably the only time I'd agree with Jonathan King. It's fairly well known that Slade's MXE was recorded a the Record Plant in New York in August of '73 during a heatwave. The locals thought they were mental. John Lennon was recording in the same building at the time, stuck his head in the door and said "not a bad voice your singer's got".
 9.
I think you've misunderstood me. Of course everyone is entitled to an opinion---and like you say, being able to freely hold an opinion is a fundamental human right. But my point was that people seem to have fundamentally equated "the right to have an opinion" with "all opinions are of equal value" or "all opinions are right". They think that saying "its my opinion" is some kind of valid argument as to why they should be taken seriously and think that having an opinion on something gives them a seat at the table---like homeopaths demanding a say in how the NHS is run. Some opinions---"the earth is flat", "drinking 16 bottles of cola can cure cancer", "ducks quacks don't echo", "there's no evidence in favour of evolution" are just wrong. The person is completely free to hold that opinion, but the rest of us don't necessarily need to give that opinion respect or pay any heed to it.
Aaah, I see. In that case substitute my previous post with..... "I full respect your inalienable right to believe that homeopathy works ............... but you're still a knob".
 10.
Em, why has he been discussed many times? Is he somebody to avoid?
Quite the opposite, a well known & liked pro. If I get it confirmed I'll let you know.
 11.
Ok, how about respecting my right to have the opinion that £500 on a 1973 4001 was a low-ball offer? I think that opinion should be respected, given that someone eventually bought the bass for close to the asking price.
Actually - if we're to be picky - as this thread is heading; it wasn't a low-ball................ It was a daisy-cutter.
 12.
One of the oddest aspects of modern society is that everyone seems to have gained the idea that calling something "their opinion" makes it sacrosant and of value.
Not odd at all; many thousands of people have died to give you the right to form & hold that opinion; whether you want that right or not. Similarly there also hundreds of people right now being tortured, maimed, disappeared or just plain murdered for not having the same opinion as those who govern them. It doesn't make yours or anyone else's opinion more right or wrong than any other, but it's how folk respond to different opinions that's the crucial thing; with a shrug or a bullet. BUT - this seems a grossly disproportionate tangent to go off at from the OP. I mentioned my intention to sell some gear to someone a while ago. They came back at me with what many would call a low-ball offer recently; I just said No, stuck to my price, pointed out is was very reasonable because of A, B, C & D, they agreed & paid my price. I didn't think anything untoward about it, he tried & if it had been a bit higher he might have got it for less - he didn't. While collecting it yesterday they spotted another bit of gear which had been gathering dust, made an offer for it which I accepted & apparently after being recovered it's going to a guy who has been discussed on this forum many, many times.
 13. Two Xmas songs from the same "group"........... who apparently were one of the more successful groups in the UK of the 70's - and the major source of Bill Oddie's income. not sure if you could get away with this one these days............
 14.
Hi Guys. My Jaydee is going in to John Diggins after Christmas for a service and I was thinking of having a brass nut fitted whilst it's there. Do you get more sustain or would it make little difference?
Ask John in advance; he won't try to convince of something he doesn't believe in himself - and might even have one in with one already on it for you to try out.
 15.
Actually, tell him there's a rigorous initiation that he has to pass first
............. while all the band starts unbuckling their belts...........
 16.
We're getting the band back together!
Play it Steve! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNbdw7P17Ls Could never bring myself to watch BB2000, but I've got the twin-disc of the original film DVD & a DVD or two of their live stuff. Finding the Winterland 78 on YT was a new one on me - I'll have to get the DVD of that if there is one - and knock one up if not.
 17.
+1 Noddy Holder frequently refers to Merry Xmas Everybody (Holder, Lea) as his 'pension plan'.
A few years ago Nod said that he makes around £100k on it every year; Jimmy will get the same.
 18.
I've got tickets for 26th Jan.
Good man, I'm doing two & a probable third, one of which is being recorded, for a DVD I think.
 19. Cropper's back over on tour next Jan/Feb if you want to do some research?
 20.
"Tokai Ltd UK" do import Rockinbetter 4003 basses into the UK. they are made in Korea not China. .................... Big Stu don't know where they are on sale at £299, I got mine for new for £400 and it had £65 off, most shops selling them in the uk at £465. even at £500 its a really good bass with a three piece thro maple neck. its hard to get a good thru neck for under £500.
I was told last year that it was only the original ones that were made in Korea, they are now Chinese which are at £499.. The £299 I saw on one was in GuitarGuitar Edinburgh when they were first released a few years ago, whether it was a special introductory price I don't know but that's what it was...... remember it distinctly because I was taken in, at first sight of the neck only, that it was an actual Rick at that price, then I read the TRC properly & though "cheeky b*ggers"!.
 21.
he'd obviously bent his air bass as he plucking the side of his hip but his fretting hand was in the traditional position
What an amateur!
 22.
Not had many valve amps but I understood valves last for years and years.
I'm told - by professional experts - that that is the case, but you would have to have them tested properly if you don't know their history. My amp had what turned out to be virtually new KT88s in it, they hadn't been used for 18 years, but were still as was when tested.
I would ring Watford valves they will advise you. They are there to help you choose the right set.
+1, I've had reliability concerns about valves available which were raised on here (JJ KT88s as it goes) & options available, all of which were stocked by Watford & I've recently received a very helpful email from "Derek" there. He has given open opinions about some issues & given advice about which valves to go for - which weren't the most expensive they had. Have you checked the "Recommended Amp Techs" thread in the Repairs area?
 23.
Since no one else is having a bash I'll take a guess at: TheYoung Ones Bacon Sandwich Bambi goes crazy ape bonkers with his drill and sex Scumbag College and so on. I've watched that episode many times
Not "Ade Edmundson & The Bad Shepherds"? Bugger! Just as I was re-aligning my thoughts that he seemed like a good guy too! Back to square one.
 24. Isn't it like ........ a law? I also - almost always - have a moon-stomp every time I hear Madness' "One Step Beyond", like this aft.
 25.
My situation, posted eralier in this thread, led to the THREAT of an "official warning" by a moderator........who I think needs to get out more!
Luxury! I had comments deliberately misconstrued and exagerated, completely diverted and then implied it was by me & then banned from OT "for my own good". I doubt the mod involved is even aware of how many other sections that banning also bars you from, wherein I had the answer to quite a lot of points raised but couldn't. Still, it's their site & you play by their rules is the bottom line...... I've seen worse, & I've seen one site closed for worse.
