1. I didn't even know they made string sets that light, could you maybe use the bottom 4 of a 6 string set (high c and down) then tune them to standard?
2. Well I'm just curious as to what the first song people on here could play on bass was. For me, on the £70 stagg crapmaster, American idiot. Oh dear lord, how far I have come since then. Started off not knowing what frets were what and it took me a while to get the concept of adjusting a strap... How about you guys?

4. Oh don't get me wrong, this bass is a can of worms. Neck pickup is on it's last legs, most of the hardware at least a little rusty, the wiring isn't original fender as far as I can tell, needs a new jack socket etc. Clearly the previous owner didn't care for it a great deal (surprising as I bought it off a member here many moons ago). Only when I stopped to look at it have I realised the extent of it. I'm just happy to be playing again truth be told, it's no big thing, I was planning on new pickups anyway and it's nothing a few screws and a bit of metal polish won't fix up.
5. Flateric, I would be very grateful if you did and of course I'd be able to put a few quid your way, cheers bud No idea how it would have happened, it bridge itself is a little rusty in places so possibly the previous owner stripped the heads trying to adjust siezed/ rusted screws. I've managed to get them out with a set of pliers but this is impossible to do under tension so setting it up isn't practical using pliers.
6. I don't really care if I soak my bass in sweat, it gets a full clean after every gig anyway and it's inevitable. However driclor is amazing stuff. I use it on my back, pits and a few other bits to combat the insane sweating if it's even mildly humid. Be warned, this stuff HURTS when you first start using it, I'd describe it like an itchy burn, like a really bad stinging nettles sting. It smells like vodka though which makes me happy.
7. I know this aint what you want to hear as a recommendation but tell him to get some decent musicians headphones before investing in an in ear monitoring system, the marked reduction in volume helps with clarity, and the added bonus of not going deaf.
8. Well in the god knows how many years I've played this bass I've never properly set it up, it was kind of an ok setup when I got it. Today I finally got the right allen keys for the job and went at it, only to discover the previous owner had stripped the heads of the first 3 height adjustment screws. Now, any ideas good BC'ers where I can buy some spares?
9.
Mrs CP has actually banned me from going on ebay when I'm a little tired and emotional..........
Get drunk, calm down, and then go on ebay to buy stuff whilst drunk.
10. Take a swap for a kidney? No? didn't think so, but have a free bump. Amazing piece of kit this.
11. Always bought an amp to gigs and usually used whatever was set up (the organiser always insisted on using their backline but I think it's rude to show up without a rig) Where I slipped up, I didn't bring a spare bass one night and I encountered a rare group of bass players unwilling to let me borrow one when mine decided not to work. Played in silence a whole gig, horrible gig, majorly embarassing but the show must go on and all that.
12. Occasionally but I utilise open notes a lot so yeah... I use an old wristband I found under the sofa currently, does the same job.
13. Bought a bass pod pro, Chris is a sound guy, great communication, prompt delivery, absolute bargain. Got a jazz bass pickguard on it's way (It was probably the package I missed on the 30th) and I'm sure i'll also be majorly satisfied with that purchase as well.
14. Learning to read rekindled my passion for bass, I'd wholeheartedly recommend it. Much happier I've started playing again, don't give up, making music, it's a beautiful thing to do.
15. Nothing really... I've had bad luck with gear, always breaking at the most inoppurtune moments. My epiphone thunderbird was reliable and I wish I hadn't sold it for beer now but I wouldn't buy another, the sound was a bit muddy and it was a bastard to play for more than an hour stood up due to neck dive. Hmm, I bought a cable from that dude on the forum OBBM, bassic bits cable, thats never let me down and I don't think it ever will.

17. Cheers lad, I was hoping for notation (I struggle rythmically with tabs alone) but thanks a lot it's a great start
18. Took me about 3 weeks of googling to build up my resources, it's all out there you've just gotta find it.
19. I've looked high and low for some decent Jethro Tull transcriptions and can't seem to find any decent ones, has anyone got any decent ones I could maybe borrow? Or would like to recommend where I can obtain some? Cheers guys
20.
Sounds like the pickups could be out of phase with each other. Try reversing the leads on one pickup and see if that helps. There will be a small volume loss when both are on since they are in parallel but it should be minimal.
Thanks, will try this.
21. Update: I have a lead, my mates reckons his dad has one I can borrow, going to investigate for me tomorrow. Cheers for the guidance, what about neck holes? How do I get those right? (Also need to drill holes in the neck baring in mind)

23. I don't want them to do it for me neccessarily, maybe loan me the drill/ show me the proper way to do it? Seems daft to invest in a pillar drill to drill these few holes, if I can't find a kind person to loan me one what about using a spirit level, taping the bit to show where I stop drilling, and hoping for the best?
24. Main idea of this project is to learn how to do these things though, hence the asking. Maybe I'll see if someone on here can give me a hand, title changed.
