Im off to the shops....
2. Ok,this has been going on for years now,and I understand the 'What the eyes dont see ,the engineer dont judge" answer, but why spend 3k+ on a Fenderesque or straight bodystyle copy, when you could just get the real thing, and spend 2-300 quid on new guts for it,or parts replacement the lot for the same price? Given in some peoples eyes that Fenders creations are abysmal, for one or more reasons.
3. Could be a simple case of where to put your plectrums?
4. What works? Do something over the top...or Suck up to journos and Jo Whiley.. Failing that cut yourself onstage, every emo kid upon the globe will find you 'understand' them! sorry Ive had a really sh*t day

Glockenklang

Heads and cabs..anything.. Ive heard its the absolute in tone (yeah I heard that about SWR and Eden..tried them and they were overpriced, and pissweak) Im even wondering about Accugroove
7. Im about to commit a cardinal sin in my ears/eyes... I love Tech 21..,who I am very Happy with...but I want to see what the Germans have to offer.... Any recommendations,or anyone local to Yorkshire, that I could try one?
8. Yves Carbonne. Fretless,ERB,and studio exp.....
9. Whats the problem with the USA Russ, apart from its bloody cold right now? I would flog them as a complete, because you could get stuck with a seperate article that you cant get a sale for anyone or thing.
10. Im in the same position, for an audition... problem is,on what..do I play safe,or break out the beast? And go all chordial-Tapola to forfill a stereotype. And then what do I do,some easy 'moody' piece,or all smash and flash (I would rather not do the latter).
11.
Wow, I always assumed you had more than one ERB! Straight from 5 to 9 must have been a bit of a leap! I have 4 5 5 5 5 5 6 7 8 And because of that, your 9 makes me feel inadequate!
Dude I went from 4 to 5, 6 weeks ago,and then went 9, 2 weeks later after that. I had a 6, years and years back, but couldnt know how to play it,or get on with it,shame, because It would have been good to keep, but I guess thats given me the knowledge on what NOT to do,when it comes to learning. String number has nothing to do with adequacy, its just experience, and what you feel the need to express that experience with. going to sell a few soon anyway.....a fretless clearout, and a few fretted as well.
12.
I saw your username and the first thing I thought was "How about a thread to count how many strings we have?" Just on basses, my count is 50!
Im on 40 4 4 4f 4u 5 5f 5f 9
13.
That's an interesting idea too - any of the mods got any idea how we could do this..?
Is it possible to sub divide into what we use..fretless,six string etc etc
14. Do you really see the Germans calling a Guitar VAR VICK!? Everyone Ive met,heard..talked to,endorsee etc, calls it "Warrick"

16.
OMG!! you'll never guess what i found this afternoon! i found the perfect guitar shop in the world! there was a substantial bass section! Amps and bass's ready to be taken down and played on! friendly staff! a bass expert in store to answer any questions! also he is a builder of basses and guitars! one slight problem it's in Ripon in Yorkshire and all the bass's were made by Vintage which means it won't cost you an arm and a leg to purchase one. the most expensive was bout 200 quid. and my god the sound that came out of them all that i tried and played with for a good hour and a half was amazing. i was literally in heaven... highly recommend you look for ripon city music shop if you're ever near the cathedral take a wander! Phew! back to kerrang!
AHHH so you met Jim then... Tallish chunky bloke with spex and an Essex accent? Probably wearing a hoodie and combats. Ripon city music are great,I just wish they were in a city, and had more stuff....But given as its a micro sized town, they are really really good educators as well. +5 Billion on Mansons ALWAYS GOOD,even when they are snowed under, they dont hassle you, they even apologise if they dont get to the phone quick enough or ring you back in time. Even if you dont get the 'Specialist' (Adrian in our case) the other guys will do whatever they can..and will, give you many options on a purchase if you give them a figure on what you are looking for. Tim is a good setup/repairer as well. And if you see Andy he ALWAYS asks if he can help. They even recommended who and where to go to for repairs and spares in the north, when I moved up here. London shops, just dont seem to come close.
17.
Just of curiosity, how do you pronounce it? Is it O-vang-kol or maybe o-VANG-kol?
O-vangkol,with a little empasis on the kol....
18.
I did the same thing to my first bass, a kay sg copy. It was defretted, sprayed purple then launched from the top of a scaffold.... When I see them for sale on ebay listed as vintage I encourage the seller to do the same! It`s the only way to be sure they dont fall into the wrong hands!!
yeah.... And the thing is, I know thats true.... So where do all the Washburn Status's go Dave?
19. www.Jimfleetingguitars.com Will go as mad as you want him to regarding design. Give to him what you like and want, and he can draw a few ideas and see what you want..or like. He built this for me
20. Have you EVER played a Carl Thompson? This IS a dream Bass,It feels, sounds, and plays,as good as it looks.
