1. Lads, I must apologise for taking up your time. This site is very informative and you're so quick. I have just took the bass out of the case and there is NO decal on the back of the headstock. I have shown the wrong pic.as suggested initially but I kept on persisting, don't ask why. I must stop drinking on a weekend. I've been a prat and did a lot of unnecessary research yesterday. Anyway, the correct pic to follow later today. Sorry again and thanks for pointing this out.
2. I've tried to be as descriptive as possible. Since additional research ( and I thought it would never come to it) I appreciate now that this decal on the back doesn't tie in with 1980 and would have come along 4 years or so later when the new EB factory was set up. However, as far as I'm concerned it looks right and feels right and everything seems spot on. Perhaps a worker took it along to the new site and added the logo there. There must have been friction in the company when Leo Fender walked out in 1980 and who knows what. If there is fraudulence, and I can't see that, surely the person would have removed this logo. I don't quite understand what pictures I can add. Please advise.
3. Didn't want to spend time researching to try and clear the genuinity up but here's snippets of info: String Tree EB aquired Music Man in 1984 and continued production in the same year. Note the absence of any reference to "Ernie Ball" on the logo. Also note the string tree located on the A an D strings which is an EB feature (Pre-EB Basses have it located on the D and G strings). This instrument also has a contoured body (Pre-EB 'Rays were slab). Fretboard Fretted Rosewood was introduced at the end of 1979. The only Rosewood before that was fretless. - and what a beautiful feel it is. The bass serial No. stamped on the bridge plate is B019387 Below is an extract taken from The Original Comprehensive Musicman Bass site. B019362..Neck 5 Feb 1980. Body 28 Jan 1980. Strings through body and 3 bolt neck. Non-epoxy pre-amp (Tantalum capacitors). B019393..1980. White with Maple. Black pg. Serial on bridge. Music Man stamp on bridge tail. Strings through body. 3 bolt neck. Encircled "R" on headstock logo. B019398..1980. Sunburst with Rosewood. Left handed. Everything is correct - especially including the warm sound and feel. However, it is a mystery with that transfer but I will try and find the time to enquire how it could have happened.
4. Maybe it was intended for a Cutlass? Makes it unique by the notes of the experts.
5. Superb quality in craftsmanship, materials and sound. Weight a nice 9lbs. Early 1980's. I could have had it refinished but you know it can de-value an instrument. Some small routing in the control well where someone must have had a 3 pot control system. It is now as it normally was with the 2 way boosts. The well has been screened with metallic paint which was really unnecessary. Includes hard case. Can be shipped if necessary. You're welcome here to test before you buy. 6. Bought brand new and boxed Markbass 2x10 combo accompanied with a brand new MB 2x10 cab. Tried several bases thru this set up, just could not get on with it. (They were taken out of the boxes) I sold them after about a month and bought TC 450 with 2 x 2x10 cabs. Love it. So even though my wife is Italian, it's not MB for me. Although as someone said previous MB sounds good when somebody else is playing thru it. In one case it was a P bass.
7. Originally withdrew ad because I couldn't make my mind up. It's now definitely for sale again with no sad stories. She's a beaut.
8. After 'wateroftyne' has kindly put that clip on, I note that he's stated B width neck. He is probably far more technical than I am so after measuring across the nut/first fret it confirms 'B' type as the measurement is 1 5/8 ins.
9. Hello Steve, The neck I would say is C shape, may be nearing a U but not chunky, if you know what I mean. It's very very comfortable. The case shown is included so protection should be fine and I can post it through one of the Interparcel companies. Geoff
10. Lovely early 70's Precision, with a classic P growl. Very light (around 8 lbs). Balances perfectly with no neck dive. Replacement tone knob. Neck is solid and stable, truss rod works fine. Recently refinished back to Candy Apple Red by Jaydee guitars in Birmingham, replacement Bartolini pickup and electronics, original pick guard cracked in a couple of places which has been replaced with new but original will be included in the sale. Replacement tone knob. At some point the neck and body have been stripped and clear-coated. Whoever did it did a good job. The neck stamps are still visible in the neck pocket (T Chambers), but unfortunately the date stamp (if it was there in the first place) has gone from the heel.

It's currently loaded with Bartolinis, which sound big and have lots of growl. If I was keeping the bass, I'd keep 'em in. They sound great.

I'm not sure what is and isn't original in the electronics. Theres an original looking orange cap in there... the pots aren't so I'm assuming the rest isn't.

One tone knob has been replaced - it has squarer shoulders than normal.

The strap buttons have been replaced with Schaller strap locks.

The G-screw and spring on the bridge:

Should be the longer screw, but has been replaced at some point with something newer and standard length, along with the spring. They're both shinier than the others.

The (original) pick guard is cracked in two places. Presumably at the time it was refinned, theres been a little bit of shaping done to straighten up Fenders early-70's wobbly edges around the neck joint. Its just cosmetic though - you can see it on the photo looking down on the neck joint.

The neck is solid and stable, and feels great. The truss works fine. The neck sits a little low in the neck pocket for my liking (I like quite a bit of daylight between the strings and the pickup) so theres a shim in there at the moment."

11. Why do we eventually get a great sound/setup and then later want to change thinking theres something better, and there rarely is. Thats me anyway. Ive had great comments with this bass. I put it through a TC Electronic 450 and a 2x10 TC cab. I occasionally take a second TC 2x10 cab. Again, I think I’ll be moving on this brilliant amplification soon. Original scratch plate, damper and case included. Tele Geoff 01902833173 Please see Photobucket link if Ive got it right. http://s1355.photobu.../?sort=3&page=1
12. Hi, Is this sold? Thanks Geoff
13. I found that the later the model, the more constipated it sounded.
14. As some of you may know, the ohmmeter reads 2/3rds to 3/4 of impedance across the speaker terminals. 4ohm typically measures 2.5 -3 ohms. 8 ohms typ reads about 5-6 ohms. This speaker measures 5.4 ohms, which confirms that it was the original speaker from an 8 ohm Trace 1x15 cab. So the speaker is 8 ohm and what a cracker is. Regards Geoff
15. Celestion Model B15-300 . Excellent. No tiredness. Little use. It was from a Trace Elliot 15 cab. A big clear sound. See http://s1355.photobucket.com/user/geoff90guitar/library/Celestion15%20bass%20speaker?page=1 Welcome to pick up from Coseley West Mids or I can send for £10. You won't be disappointed. Geoff
16. PM'd Geoff
17. Anybody there?
18. Are you selling the cab that went with it?
19. Can you do a minimum incl p&p on the cab please?
20. Sorry I'm a little confused. Is the head and cab going to be sold separately?
