1. Yes, Everything original except the pickups which are Fender USA original vintage 62 reissue. Pots, knobs, machine heads, nut, pickguard etc. original.
2. Thanks for that. I've changed it to public so Im hoping it's ok now. Cheers
3. Please see http://s1355.photobu...3?sort=3&page=1 You don't see many in this colour, rather classy. This bass has been with me for the last 15 years or so. At one point, while I had this white JV, I bought two further Precisions from a guy who used to run what is now PMT in Birmingham - a pre CBS and an early 70's. After bum, bum and comparing, this bass came out on top. Every time I've tried something else (we're all looking for the chalice) I always fell back onto this bass. However, it's time to sell. I owe my mom a lot of money since purchasing a pre Ernie recently. Now, as most of you know this is the early series Fender Squier, nothing like Squier guitars today, made generally anywhere. There's plenty of info on the web about the original JV Squier range. Also some of you know that a pristine condition guitar is generally one that is picked up, played for a short while and then put back under the bed because it sounds crap. This bass has been used on many gigs. The marks are rock n'roll, theres no splits it the wood etc. All original except the replaced pickups which are now Fender Original Precision bass 62 USA vintage reissue. The neck has a great feel. Truss rod, tuners, frets and controls are fine. The bass has a thick sound more rocky than Micky Mouse. It's warm with string volume balanced across the four strings no toppy G & D. Weight - a nice 8lbs + 1oz. Reluctant sale and comes with hard case as shown. PS Could somebody kindly open up the main overall picture please, I can't show it? Geoff
4. The 4 ohm thing with hamfist is irrelevant with a valve amp regarding sound to the ear. Yes, you'll certainly notice the sound volume with a trani but valve, na. Buy it if it's your thing.
5. Just bought a 77 Stingray off Andrew. Superb instrument. Bass and case was very well packaged. 2 1/2 days delivery to me in England from Ireland. A pleasure to have dealt with.
6. The bass was made only around a year into the production of these Japanese Fender/Squiers. Two tone sunburst finish with a maple neck and fingerboard. Vintage style reverse tuners. Fitted with Seymour Duncan SPB1 pickups suited to the original Fender model with cloth wirings. Controls are Fender 250k pots with correct value cap and are in good working order. Sometime during its 32 years, it has had the incorrect pick-guard fitted i.e.13 hole fitting as opposed to the 57’ 10 screw hole guard. I have photographed underneath the plate to show this. There are no other holes or cavity mods (further pics sent if requested). The truss rod works correctly, the neck and headstock are clean and the frets are in good shape. Overall the bass is very clean with only a few bumps & scrapes. It has a big round warm sound with a hint of extra top end due to the Maple board in keeping with the vintage vibe. Weight is just above 8 lbs and the overall volume balance across the strings is even. Please see link to pictures. http://s1355.photobucket.com/user/geoff90guitar/library/Fender%20Squier%20JV%20Precision%20Bass?sort=3&page=1 Cheers Geoff PS If anybody could open the pics on this page I'd appreciate. It says I've used 31.35MB of my 30MB whatever that is.
7. Musky, you're a gentleman. Much appreciated. I'm too old to understand how you did that. Best regards Geoff
8. I've been asked if the bass is a standard USA jazz made in California. Yes it is, with the option of changing the sound to a Precision when depressing the volume knob. It puts both pickups in series.
9. Could one of the editors please place my photos as a first view? Appreciated Thanks
10. Black/maple neck. 2005 model. With factory fitted S1 switch which when depressed, the two traditional sounding pickups effectively become one and the sound is a thumping Precision bass. It's in excellent original working condition, electrics, finish, truss rod with the exception of belt marks on the rear of the body caused by performing. Fender case and original scratchplate included. Please follow link: (could one of the editors display pics please, I can't do it?) http://s1355.photobucket.com/user/geoff90guitar/library/Fender%20USA%20Standard%20Jazz%20bass?sort=3&page=1 Cheers Geoff
11. Excellent. There's plenty of info on the early Squier JV range so I'm not going to attempt to bull. Fender's first year of assembly in Japan. Superb quality and sound. Original electrics and fully working. Truss rod fine. Strings balanced in volume. I've struggled to display the pictures so please click on the link (if the editors could put the main one on for me, ..please?) You're welcome to try the bass out here in Coseley - between Dudley and Wolverhampton before you purchase or I can post/ship. I was once told the neck had been re-fretted but I can't tell, I don't think anyone could, - so what, the action is nice and the feel is very smooth. Other than that totally original. Please email if you want further pics. Weight fraction above 8lbs. Comes with hard case. http://s1355.photobucket.com/user/geoff90guitar/library/82%2083%20Squier%20JV%20Jazz%20Bass?sort=3&page=1 Geoff
12. I agree, depends on what's in the pocket, but the wiring matl could have changed at such a late model. I'd say it was original but I think the sound quality lost it about post JV6**...
13. Lads, Thanks greatly for your help. Best wishes all. I've attached pics for confirmation of rear headstock http://s1355.photobucket.com/user/geoff90guitar/library/Stingray%201980%20headstock%20rear?sort=3&page=1 Geoff
14. Lads, I must apologise for taking up your time. This site is very informative and you're so quick. I have just took the bass out of the case and there is NO decal on the back of the headstock. I have shown the wrong pic.as suggested initially but I kept on persisting, don't ask why. I must stop drinking on a weekend. I've been a prat and did a lot of unnecessary research yesterday. Anyway, the correct pic to follow later today. Sorry again and thanks for pointing this out.
15. I've tried to be as descriptive as possible. Since additional research ( and I thought it would never come to it) I appreciate now that this decal on the back doesn't tie in with 1980 and would have come along 4 years or so later when the new EB factory was set up. However, as far as I'm concerned it looks right and feels right and everything seems spot on. Perhaps a worker took it along to the new site and added the logo there. There must have been friction in the company when Leo Fender walked out in 1980 and who knows what. If there is fraudulence, and I can't see that, surely the person would have removed this logo. I don't quite understand what pictures I can add. Please advise.
16. Didn't want to spend time researching to try and clear the genuinity up but here's snippets of info: String Tree EB aquired Music Man in 1984 and continued production in the same year. Note the absence of any reference to "Ernie Ball" on the logo. Also note the string tree located on the A an D strings which is an EB feature (Pre-EB Basses have it located on the D and G strings). This instrument also has a contoured body (Pre-EB 'Rays were slab). Fretboard Fretted Rosewood was introduced at the end of 1979. The only Rosewood before that was fretless. - and what a beautiful feel it is. The bass serial No. stamped on the bridge plate is B019387 Below is an extract taken from The Original Comprehensive Musicman Bass site. B019362..Neck 5 Feb 1980. Body 28 Jan 1980. Strings through body and 3 bolt neck. Non-epoxy pre-amp (Tantalum capacitors). B019393..1980. White with Maple. Black pg. Serial on bridge. Music Man stamp on bridge tail. Strings through body. 3 bolt neck. Encircled "R" on headstock logo. B019398..1980. Sunburst with Rosewood. Left handed. Everything is correct - especially including the warm sound and feel. However, it is a mystery with that transfer but I will try and find the time to enquire how it could have happened.
17. Maybe it was intended for a Cutlass? Makes it unique by the notes of the experts.
18. Superb quality in craftsmanship, materials and sound. Weight a nice 9lbs. Early 1980's. I could have had it refinished but you know it can de-value an instrument. Some small routing in the control well where someone must have had a 3 pot control system. It is now as it normally was with the 2 way boosts. The well has been screened with metallic paint which was really unnecessary. Includes hard case. Can be shipped if necessary. You're welcome here to test before you buy. 19. Bought brand new and boxed Markbass 2x10 combo accompanied with a brand new MB 2x10 cab. Tried several bases thru this set up, just could not get on with it. (They were taken out of the boxes) I sold them after about a month and bought TC 450 with 2 x 2x10 cabs. Love it. So even though my wife is Italian, it's not MB for me. Although as someone said previous MB sounds good when somebody else is playing thru it. In one case it was a P bass.
20. Originally withdrew ad because I couldn't make my mind up. It's now definitely for sale again with no sad stories. She's a beaut.
21. After 'wateroftyne' has kindly put that clip on, I note that he's stated B width neck. He is probably far more technical than I am so after measuring across the nut/first fret it confirms 'B' type as the measurement is 1 5/8 ins.
