3. Thanks for that man .... It just goes to show what a wonderfully diverse and accepting breed us bass players are!
 4.
There are bands that I love that are a long way from being the best musicians but I totally dig the music. The fact is some stuff excites you and some stuff doesn't. In the case of Lightning Bolt,I heard nothing that I liked on either a musical or guttural level.
A fair point and well made. Each to their own. I'm a fairly new contributor to this forum, but I have always noticed and respected your opinions on here, but always thought that they were maybe biased towards the theoretical point of veiw. "There are bands that I love that are a long way from being the best musicians but I totally dig the music." - please share I really would like to hear them. Edit: please excuse my inane statement above ^^^.
 5.
I watched those clips, and thought that it was a couple of young guys who probably hadn't been playing for long and were playing in front of their mates. To me it sounded sloppy and amateurish.
Much as I respect (and I suppose, desire, the more I learn) the beauty and complexity of musical theory and rhythmical concepts, I feel the more you learn, the more you analyze and criticise? I sometimes feel that you somehow lose that gut instinct and raw unabbreviated passion for 'sound'. At the end of it all - if a tune excites you, you ain't thinking about the mathematics.
 6. oooh! ... these tunes just ooze the heat of a Louisiana swamp just northwest of La Nouvelle-Orleans. Fantastic! Me and the Wife are massive True Blood fans and can hear this all over it. Fingers crossed for ya!
 7. "rock and roll burlesque gypsy voodoo jazz from Rattlin Bone, complete with deranged clowns" Now this sounds right up my Strasse - any vids knockin' about?
 8. Have a link and a vote from me .... Good luck! British Blues Awards - click on 'K.T. Award' > 'UK Blues Today/Radio Seagull' > 'vote here' or vote here
 9. Heh heh heh! I'm cackling like some sort of mad/sad puppetier reading the reactions to my thread! I think the power of the emoticon sums up peoples opinion of Lightning Bolt rather beautifully and succinctly. So far we've had ... I personally love them. But, I also used to love dancing with my head practically wedged in a wall of 18" bassbins at raves. I discovered them after winning a 'Death From Above 1979 - You're a woman, I'm a machine' CD in a 6music phone competition ... ...and went on to buy Lightning Bolt's back catalogue + 'The Power of Salad' DVD. Although I fully agree that this is "horses for courses" and probably best enjoyed after a few wine gums rather than a delightfully sunny Sunday morning .... right, I'm off to chill out to Marvin Gaye's 'What's going on' in the garden. Edit: for Sunday morning spelling.
 10. Glad to be of some help. Good decision to pick this one over the Mexican Jazz, superior parts, pickups, woods and quality. American Jazz bass in sunburst - classic choice!
 11. It maybe worth hanging on a bit for designs, isn't Basschat getting a revamp soon? Maybe a change of logo in the offing???
This will give you some idea of what the new version of the software looks like http://community.invisionpower.com/ ped
12.
@Sawtooth Yes mate. You can check the stock and I think my local has some of the American Specials in. DIdn't really want to go that high in price but it should last a lifetime as long as it doesn't get nicked or somthing.
My apologies Sir. My Top tips are: -go early (it's Saturday) -try as much as poss within budget -don't have any brand preconceptions, -you never know till you try -take a pen and pad and make notes about prices, thoughts etc. and take some pics -leave the shop for a cup of tea and a long, hard think! Enjoy!
Could you have a squint here and tell me if I'm dong it wrong: http://www.dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/Fender_Bass_Guitars.html

Yeah Stuck to Dawsons mate via a Crdit Note. Long story Waddya reckon to the Fender American Special Jazz Bass? Would it be a similar beast? They have a few of them in
I don't know if you realise or I mis-understood, but this will be the stock list for all the Dawsons branches nationwide. I went in the Chester branch recently and there were maybe half a dozen Fenders in total.
 14.
Now this is a les paul bass... http://www.rockfactory.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=gbg-gib9
My, my! Now that is handsome.
 15.
You used to audition bands after hearing a CD? Weird! Playing an audition to get a gig, haha.
Sorry, that wasn't clear, it's what the manager used to call them. An "audition" meant a one-off (paid) gig early week, if popular/any good, then maybe booked for a Fri/Sat night. We used to get some acts through agents/managers/word of mouth, but a lot of Cd's were dropped in and got a listen out of interest (and boredom on a quiet day!) -you don't get out to see much other live music when working fulltime in a pub. Be warned that most don't make it to the end of the first track though, so make sure you edit your best performance first.
 16. I'm not sure of the legality of this, but I can tell you from my past experience as a live-in assistant manager of a busy live music pub in London, that this was how business was done. Bands / singers used to drop off live/studio demo cd's regularly, you give them a listen and if you like them, they get an audition - simple.
 17.
Wristbands with bass clefs, great idea!
Agreed, but some subtlety may be the key here, otherwise ... edit: I always knew Jedward were a couple of charity cases! or here's one for the 'readers' ...
 18. Nice choice, put some 'porn' pics up when you get her. Welcome to the G&L owners club!
 19.
heh, well spotted!
Elementary, my dear Watson.
 20. Quality site and well worth a look. Some good, solid practice advice there, especially the metronome - top tip! Have a link on me www.mikenichols.co.uk
 21. I thought this was an extremely interesting comparison by Dave Marks in a Frudua Guitars bass demo. Take two identical Frudua GFJ 34" scale 5-string basses. Both with Alder bodies, same woods and specs, only the fretboard wood changes. One with maple, the other with rosewood ... ... that is until I noticed the small, top, rearmost knob is in a different position for each bass. Investigating futher, it turns out this is a tone knob for the passive circuit. Turned up for the maple ...... and you guessed it, highs rolled off for the rosewood.
 22. Yeah, 3/32" as Ou7shined said. Allen Wrench Sizes
 23. What a surprise, Leo's 'forgotten' brand G&L (L2000) lurking in the shadows at No. 58! At least it helps retain some exclusivity for those who know Although it was nice to read the opinion of the L2000 from 'Grog' from the British band 'Die So Fluid' - "The G&L L2000 rules. Integeral to the signature sound of Die So Fluid, it's low-end meaty rumble combined with super-dynamic top-end crunch, via active boost, packs a mighty punch in every situation, handling our low tunings with magic, full-bodied tone."
