I shouldn't be surprised (because I'm a bassist), but...
iconic replied to Muzz's topic in General Discussion
Unless this is something new it's one root note and 2 strings each one octave from the root, not a series of 3 octaves.
I'm not sure what it does, how it works or how to play it, but I like the colour & it sure looks cool......I really want one.....not that I'm shallow you understand -
I had the same problem with MIA and MIM, which to my mind meant 'missing in action' and 'metal injection moulded'....very educational place this basschat
Talking funk, the most immediately recognisable bassists I know are Bootsy (whether he uses effect pedals or not) and the originator of slap: Larry Graham. With Bootsy, even if you listen to James Brown, Deee-Lite, Parliament, Funkadelic, Brides of Funkenstein, Sweat Band, Xavier, & solo works by George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, etc, you can usually immediately tell if its Bootsy on the bass or not either from the sound and the depth of the groove. Likewise, with Larry Graham check out some of his work with Betty Davis, instantly recognisable to his sound with Sly and Grahm Central Station. The latter Sly & the Family Stone stuff (after Graham left) has a distinctly different sound. The late Mark Adams (Slave) has a pretty recognisable sound and groove too, and was massively underrated in my opinion.
Mark Adams dead, that passed me by I never knew that, one of my all time hero's ..also Drac Hicks has passed on

Is it worth getting courier insurance on a £700 bass?
iconic replied to CBbass's topic in Bass Guitars
Insurance & sod's law: ..... get it insured then the item takes on a halo effect and nothing will happen to it....if it isn't insured then sod's law applies and it will arrived only suitable for a beavers dam....that's what I always find... -
You were all robbed! Mine was £20 from a local music forum!
£20...I'm gonna cry...but with a tort scratchcover, pup covers, fake fender decal, some greasy old flats 'n funk scratched into the neck heel....it's money back 'n a curry...! "I found this in the loft of the house just bought, the house was owned by a US airman serving at Mildenhall, called Grooover Wishintoon or something. He said it was given to him by some guy down on his heels in 1980...Jamie Jumerson or something, anyway it's ses Fender on the pointy end with the chrome twiddly bitz and seems very old, it's plays very well according to one of mates who plays guitar, but he says the strings are very high, what ever that means....there is some strange message on the end of the pointy bit near the bit you hold that says 'punk', or 'fink' or something it's hard to see, scratched in and then filled in with blue ink... no reserve. location very top of Scotland.

Cheap flats for a beater bass: Fender or Picato
iconic replied to iconic's topic in Accessories and Misc
I actually like the Picato flat wounds! Regardless of the Price and have had several sets with no problems, in fact I am sure I have a set taken off a Spector Rebop if your beater bass has two a side machine head layout, then you can have them FOC,
thanks for the very kind offer Dave, my beater is a Fender P bass copy...Westfield-B1000.....so my layout is 4 aside..bugger! Picato getting the votes thus far -
well, as it says....although I'm an Ernie Ball man (flats and rounds) I'm not spending half the value of my bass on the strings for what will be my the car site beater bass...and besides it's good to try different things. These, from what I see, are the cheapest at the 'respectable end' of the tightarse's flatwound market, I give you the US Fender 9050's and the Brit's Picato 766's....both around £16/17 a set, half the price of the EB Group 3's: Picato: http://www.stringsdi..._strings_45_105_ Fender: http://www.stringsdi...5_50_100_55_105_ cheers guys
Hardly surprising. A modern P-bass copy - and lets face it you'd have to be pretty crap as a manufacturer not be able to make a decent copy these days especially since the hardest bits the design and R&D have already been done for you - against a bass that could be argued to come from worst period of production for Fender. No contest IMO.
spooky....almost word for word what the Focus guy said...you didn't buy a low miles '52 plate 1.6 Zetec in Moondust Silver this week?
-
hmm, I can feel Jamerson styley thing coming on, £8 for a bridge cover, £12 for a tort' scratchplate, set 'o flats....that's the problem with cheap basses this could end up owing me.....£95
-
£60....I've been fleeced!
-
wow, only £75 new delivered...sunburst are cheapest! I thought it rude not too....my first project bass!?! I need something for the garage to noodle on that I won't cry over it it gets runover by a Focus http://www.ebay.co.u...=item230e47a8ac ...cheap enough for the 5th of November if it's unusable

Sold a focus to a local bass player, he has a fender p 79 but wanted to retire it for some of the rougher gigs, when the locals have too much cyder! Bought a westfield b1000 for 99 quid new, fitted a bad ass bridge 'n some flats...and....now doesn't use the Fender now, even at the gigs where the punters don't throw things...he added the action was a tad high but this never bothered Mr Jamerson! ...strange but true...are these Scot's gems or was Mr Punter the winner of October's bull d'Ivoire award?

Ernie ball group 3's
An earlier post seemd to reckon that those are actually D'Addarios in a different bag.
They don't look the same, feel, or sound the same well mine didn't...this needs verifying by someone in the know
