1. I'm selling my Gale Storm 8 Subwoofer. It honestly sounds absolutely amazing. I hadn't realized the difference a subwoofer could make when listening to music before I bought this. I've got some information from the Gale site: "A substantial 55 Watt amplifier and heavy duty 8 " woofer give the Storm 8 its surprising weight and scale meaning this perfect 30cm cube complements either hi-fi or home cinema components and can be positioned very discreetly in any listening environment. The physical size and power rating give no clue to its potency or the surprising weight and scale of its performance. A super efficient, long throw, driver with a bespoke amplifier are capable of producing sound pressure levels usually only obtainable from larger, more powerful subwoofers." Frequency response - 30-180 Hz Output power - 55W 5% THD Main voltage - 200- 240 volts 50Hz Max power consumption - 80W Drivers - 8" Unshielded long throw woofer Crossover Type - Continous/Active Dimensions mm - 300x300x300 Weight - 8.6kg Finish - Black Anyway, I'm looking for £35 collected from Bedford.
2. As part of my little clearout I'm selling my Torque T100BX 100w combo. It's in almost perfect condition. A few of the tops of the knobs are missing but that's and there's a slight hum at high volume, but overall the sound is great and it looks good. It is loud; I've been using this to rehearse so it can stand up against a loud drummer. It has a compressor button and a high sens and a lo sens button (I think this is for active basses). Anyway, I'm not using it any more so it's just taking up space and I'll let it go for £90 collected from Bedford.
3. PRICE DROP!! From £180, to £130, to £100!!! Now just £100 before ebay. For sale is my Harrison K2000 Power Amp. It is working well and sounds great. However, it's just a bit too much power for my needs. Condition: Aesthetically, it's very good with just a few scuffs on the top and one on the front which can be seen in the pictures. It works well and isn't noisy, just the sounds of the cooling fan I believe. The only problem is has is that the little bar graph that is supposed to light up always lights up on full no matter how hard or soft you play, so there's some black tape covering it up. Everything else works excellent though and it has been a great partner for my Pearce BC1. Output Power Specs: 4 ohms stereo - 450 watts per channel (both channels operating) 8 ohms stereo - 270 watts per channel (both channels operating) 8 ohms mono - 900 watts 16 ohms mono - 540 watts Dimensions: 2u and 292mm behind front mounting face. Also, it weighs 29 lbs or 13.2kg. I've probably missed lots of important stuff, but hopefully that's all the information needed. The price is £170 ONO and is collection only from Bedford. It comes with the manual and a power lead.
4. Thanks for the reply guys. Pics will be up tomorrow, early evening!
5. I'm looking to swap my Schecter C-1 FR for a decent bass. I only have one bass at the moment and I'm looking for a backup so this needs to go unfortunately. I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I got this, especially with the floyd rose. I've been playing metal music with this guitar but it sounds beautiful and I'm sure it would suit any genre. It's in good condition. There are a few light scratched on the back though, but of course you wouldn't be looking at the back and it would affect you're playing. It also looks like there's been a chip off the top of the headstock which has been repaired (I'll take a close up picture). Here are some specs: Construction/scale: bolt-on /25.5 in. Body: mahogany Neck/fingerboard: rosewood Frets: 24 jumbo Inlays: dots Pickups: Duncan Designed active Hb-105 Electronics: vol/vol/tone/3-way Bridge: Licensed Floyd Rose Binding: white Tuners: Schecter Hardware: black nickel Color: Gloss Black (Blk) Pics to come later. Thanks. EDIT: Just changing a few spelling mistakes
6. I'll be interested to see the Sb800!
7. This bass really reminds me of Shergold Marathons. Really cool!
8. Ok, thanks guys. I'll definitely ask for a box as well. Thanks!!
9. This will be the first time I'm receiving a guitar by post. I'm wondering, should a guitar be posted in a box even if its already in a hardcase? Just need to know what to expect really. Thanks for any help in advance! Michael
10. The bass would be able to handle the tension, but wouldn't you need to get a new nut? Otherwise the E string would be loose in the B string space. Also, you might have to adjust the truss rod after changing it. One of my friends has a a six string bass tuned to guitar tuning and it works really well.
11. I love the sound of the bass, and what the bass can do so I really love bass solos. There are loads off guys: Jeff Schimdt, Stu Hamm, Michael Manring, Victor Wooten, Billy Sheehan are just a few names. Jeff Schmidt Solo
12. Bass, keyboards and vocals: Geddy Lee Guitar: Alex Lifeson Drums: Neil Peart Woah! Imagine that, would be crazy!...
13.
Is the ring finger good for anything that's non triplet?
Yeah definitely! I use three fingers on my right hand for almost everything now. You should check out john myungs bass solo on Dance of eternity. But there are loads of bass players who use three fingers, the obvious one being billy sheehan. Another interesting technique which i've seen is players using their thumb as well as the three fingers pretty fast: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 T + i + m + r
14. Yeah it was £38. Thanks again for all the help! I've learnt from this, but still feel so silly . All I had to do was flick a switch at the back and i'd be fine!
15. Over here! I'll have them if they haven't been taken yet! PM'd
16. Nah, mine was cheaper including postage and everything. Or it was before I do this repair. I bought mine from craiglists (bit risky, but I did know the guy from ebay with a perfect seller rating). By the way, any idea how much this might cost to repair? Dood, you're beginning to look like a bit of an expert on the amp front to me!
17.
I assume it was set up for UK voltage and not U.S..just a guess here, as well.
Ahh man! How did I miss something so simple? I've never even heard of the voltage change or whatever. Oh well, I guess we learn from our mistakes. I'll be hearing from my local luthier tomorrow, hopefully it shouldn't be too much to fix. Thanks for all your help!
18. I just received my Pearce BC1 amp, plugged it in, played for about 30 seconds and... poof! Theres smoke, and a god awful smell, coming out of the Pearce and an angry 16 year old storming and swearing around the bedroom (me ). I really have no idea what I've done, and I'm not sure if its my fault or the amps. I do know, however, that one of the capacitors has popped and a load of liquid went onto the inside roof of the amp and I think the next capacitor is going the same way. Does anyone know what happened here? And also how much it will cost to fix? I'm going to my local luthier tomorrow.
19. Ah, I could come to this! I live in Bedford not too far from Cambridge. I'm happy to help out if you need a hand with anything.
20. Ha! lol, thats the coolest thing ever. Another strange thing, I'm fighting not getting an ADA MP-1 at the moment! Only thing is, there are hardly any for sale for decent prices in the UK. One going for £450 on gumtree!
21.
I guess it's also down to personal taste as well. Being able to mix and match preamps with different power amps - and cost too. maybe you want to buy a really expensive preamp (read as 'top notch') but cant afford a big power amp to go with it. I've bought gear this way previously. Then when I had the cash upgraded to a nice power amp later. There are those who like a really complicated signal chain too - and want to run different preamps with outboard effects. Having seperates can make it easier to get the tones you want. For example running an old Pearce BC-1 along side a Trace V-type preamp and mixing the two in to one power amplifier. So, in short - it's what you want from a bass rig that will help you decide. If you prefer 'plug and play' then maybe a head will be just fine.
Thanks for the help! Also, did you know I have a Pearce BC1 (or would do by now, if parcelforce hadn't messed up - should have it by monday)? If not, thats a weird coincidence. When I do get that Pearce, I'll be running a Pearce bc1 and a pearce g2r into a power amp. I think I like the more complicated chain more as it will suit my tone better and give me more freedom, but I just really wanted to see what works best for everyone else.
My amp weighs 20lbs, does 400 in 4 and sits 2 units high. With a power amp and pre, you would be getting close to 35-40lbs in a rack with a tuner, possibly.
And I'll be using two preamps! Won't be getting many rack effects any time soon... would look nice though, all them lights...
22. I'm looking to get everyones opinions on something I'm totally ignorant about. Which do you think is better, a preamp going into a power amp then going into the cab, or just a bass head going into a cab? I'm sure there are also other ways of doing things like a preamp into a bass head, but please let me know what experiences have been with all these setups. I do know that just having a bass head is the norm, but is there a particular reason for that apart from being easy? Thanks!
23. I wanted to emulate Geddy Lee after seeing him on one of those guitar hero games about four years ago, on YYZ. But I think no one would want to play bass if they listen to something like punk, like loads of people do now.
24. Just bought a bass cab off zephead. Nice deal and great guy!
