1.
I just sold my sansamp bddi...
FAIL
2. Active pickup and Ampeg, valve if you can afford it but I'm using the SVT 3 Pro and a Sansamp and I get a nice growly tone. I really need to learn to EQ properly though.
3. You could ask Al (Avagddu) if he'd be interested in fixing the one you have if you get it back? He's a wizz with amps, and also plays a Sound City.
4. Sharing cabs at gigs is very very common practice. Just make sure your impedence matches the impedence of the cab you're plugging into. Most are a standard 4 or 8 ohm from what I've seen. I'd be very annoyed if we were told by a promoter that it's a shared backline at a gig but the bass player then refuses to let anyone use his cab, assuming the promoter had asked beforehand. Squiddon, you have a Sound City and haven't seen it in a year?!?! Get on that case immediately.
5. Hey Dan, a fellow metal bass player here. I'm quite new here too.
6. Cheers Sean, I'll very likely be Christmas shopping *shudder* on Saturday so unable to make it but I really appreciate the offer. Maybe I'll pop into Crane's to see if they stock Spectors.
7. I play with a pick with my band as it's all super fast stuff which my fingers aren't up to. When I'm just messing around in the house I play fingers though. I'm always impressed when an extreme metal bass player plays with his fingers, although often I wish I could hear it on it's own so I can see just how tight they are playing.
8. I really want to try out a Spector Euro 5. I think they could potentially be the replacements for my Ibanez. They're the main axe of the person I look up to the most in the extreme metal bass playing world (Alex Webster) and I think that says a lot for them and what I'm trying to achieve. Any good stockists in the South Wales area that anyone know of?
9. Play some air bass on your way to the gig/lesson. Seriously, even if it's just on your thighs discreetly where no one can see you just play along to whatever is playing, be it the house music, the radio, the support band. Any movement will help as long as you ease yourself in.
10. Haha I was thinking exactly the same thing! D-Basser, we should be coming up to Glasgow sometime in early 2010, I'll try to remember to keep you informed.
11. Haha cheers! Yeah that was the last day of our tour and was a great turn out.
12. I'd love that bass!! It looks just like the bass that one of my best mates uses.
13. Me on stage in Tokyo this summer: On a recent work's outing/drink:
14. Me with Extreme Noise Terror at Obscene Extreme festival in the Czech Republic 2008. It's noisy and horrible I warn you in advance!!!
15. I would've been very interested in the Gator case. I'm too far away from Sunderland to warrant a pick up though. Good luck with the sale.
16. Yeah I guess the only way of training my ears is to just get in there and fiddle around. It's difficult without knowing exactly what I'm listening for but maybe with time that will become clearer. Once again cheers for the advice peeps.
17.
Im not a punk/ska bassist but i rate Matt Freeman as one of the best bassists of our time.
This.
18. I've also never had an issue with Rotosound and have always preferred them as they seem to retain brightness for a very long time. The only time I've ever really tried anything else is when I bought a cheap set of no brand strings to go on tour with in the summer. This was a mistake as they went dull after one gig, but in fairness they did have to suffer a lot of sweat and 40 degree temperatures off stage, god knows how hot it was on stage. I'm interested to try Elixirs but they do seem expensive especially when having to purchase a separate B string.
19. Ironically I got an e-mail notification when you replied to this topic. It's the first one I've got but they seem to be working now.
20. Haha, some interesting points and good advice. Cheers once again guys. I am mates with a good PA guy already so maybe I'll ask him for some tips and do some reading around of the links given.
21. That's pretty much what I have been doing haha. The sansamp has been a total godsend!
