I recently bought a Harley Benton fretless bass, it was only a cheap one around £150. Im not expert and it is only my second bass so I do not have much to compare it to. However I think it sounds tinny and hollow when I press the string against the neck, like the neck is not solid. When I play notes the sound is kind of echoey (if thats a word). Comparing it to my Squier Affinity, which isn't an expensive bass, it is not nice or deep sounding? How can I make this sound better? Would changing strings help, or a better pick up? What pick ups would be best?

One of my favourites soul basslines is from a Omar track, nice find!

It's my life - No Doubt, I love the chorus part the bass plays! Also I am going to try Hysteria by Muse and it will definitely be a long term project!

If the government know you sell £1,700, how will they know what to tax you on this? You may have taken £1,700 and made no money on it? -
I dont think you have over reacted. If it was that important he could have arranged a videocall. What is the worst case scenario, could he be replaced?

I have just bought my first fretless bass. When I play the G string it makes a sound that I can only describe as fret buzz... but there are no frets obviously. It's only on the G, could it be that I need to raise the action on it? Also, when I press down quite quickly on a string it produces a hollow metallic sound, any idea what is causing this. My point of reference is my only other bass, a squier p bass.

Hi all. I would like to buy a fretless bass to experiment with. I dont want to spend too much in case I dont get on with them, however I dont want to spend too little and it just be too crap to play. I'm a relative novice as I have only been learning for a couple of years, and my regular bass Is a squier precision. I did buy an ex demo Vintage V74 icon, but when it arrived all the metal parts were rusted (a story for another day!). I have seen these two which look interesting; Markbass MB Yellow PB https://www.thomann.co.uk/markbass_mb_yellow_pb.htm?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=1581403900&gbraid=0AAAAADuDMCWeFnO0JQX-rZw4iDNBcTg5Q&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4qHEBhCDARIsALYKFNNynuLZSElFB10R-ixBYhUfJKWLeht3d_Bc9VqD4X7ZRZOjgLskx50aAhD9EALw_wcB Artist Vintage-Hybrid White Fretless Active/Passive Bass Guitar https://www.artistguitars.co.uk/products/artist-vintage-hybrid-white-fretless-active-passsi-14219?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=11342405749&gbraid=0AAAAADdnIO1sjKbdnYhjcH_jb4b9n_b0b&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4qHEBhCDARIsALYKFNNJHjF3xU5vuoDmoltw0uD1u6nSpno6RUVOVTdLK06Z121B88A7Rb4aAuj_EALw_wcB Alternatively do I spend a bit more and get a squier as I like the one I have and this used one seems good; Squier Classic Vibe Fretless Jazz Bass https://richtonemusic.co.uk/squier-classic-vibe-fretless-jazz-bass-sunburst-2nd-hand/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17621730406&gbraid=0AAAAAD_dMP3oKyr_8sRFLv49Q1revZ_Eo&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4qHEBhCDARIsALYKFNOSDE_kJLxLEgqFjzzGz4kWpU9P-DoX1idMaIxcIeL0H6JAwJG0LwEaAj8cEALw_wcB Lastly do I break the bank and get this Marcus Miller V5 Alder-4 TS FL B-Stock https://www.thomann.co.uk/marcus_miller_v5_alder_4_ts_fl_b_stock.htm Any advice, along with any other suggestions are appreciated!

Hi folks! I have been learning bass for a couple of years now. I really enjoy it and practice most days. I can play some songs from memory and can play songs from reading the tabs on Youtube as I play. I can do basic techniques such as slides, hammer ons and pull offs, but not slapping. I have recently started doing some very basic jamming and playing songs with a mate guitarist and drum track. My question is how do I get better now, and what should I be doing? Playing with others is something to pursue and I will be doing this to improve. I am also learning harder songs such as sir duke, so that will improve my ability to play more complex and faster pieces. What else should I be looking to do to get better? In contrast I am also learning the guitar as a secondary instrument. With guitar it seems like there is so much more to learn such as chords, how they are formed and modified to make more chords, more techniques and such etc. Anyone else get to this stage?

I am a million years away from it, but one of my objectives for playing bass is joining a band. How did you know when you were ready to join your first band?

I am looking to improve my very, very basic knowledge around music theory for the bass. Can anyone recommend any YouTube videos etc that will help me with this?

Some absolute tunes there!

I'm on my way to intermediate with my bass (but still a long way to go), but I have never learned my way around the fretboard properly, and so cant find notes easily. What is the best way to learn this?

Jamaican/Rastafarian colours bass guitar
Bass Novice replied to Bass Novice's topic in General Discussion
Cheers guys, you have given me some food for thought there. -
I would really like a bass guitar with either green, gold and black or green, gold and red colours. I have been searching the internet but can not seem to find one in these colours. Does anyone know of a company that makes them, or can point me in the right direction?
