NBD - Fender Japan Traditional Collection 2025 Precision Pearl White
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Bass Guitars
Here are more pics and if it is one of those that has been painted then it would explain why there are no dots on the side of the neck! I had to improvise with bits of gaffa tape to know what I was playing 😂 -

NBD - Fender Japan Traditional Collection 2025 Precision Pearl White

I changed the batteries after sound check and it looks like one of the battery wires came loose. An easy enough fix but not at a gig 😀 -
I don't normally do these type of posts but it's been a good number of years since I owned something with such a wow factor. A few weeks ago I had an incident that left me without a working bass at a gig. Luckily I was able to drive 10 miles down the road from the venue and borrow a bass. It was an unusual one that I hadn't heard of before, built by the Bass Workshop and it was a simple P bass with one volume and no tone control. Now I've been a Jazz guy for quite a few years now, in between the odd Stingray or Sterling. I've always wanted to like p basses but could never find anything that I liked. I now found myself in the unusual position of having to use a bass that I'd never played before, with old strings, no tone control, badly needing a set up and not even close to what I had brought to the gig - my Warmoth/Status Super Jazz with EMG JX pickups and a 3 band EQ. I found that I really enjoyed playing it. I think that I had missed the interaction of digging in and getting a more gnarly sound. It didn't matter how hard I played the jazz, it always sounded good but I couldn't get that digging in clanky growl that I could only get from passive pickups. That set me thinking so I decided to get my Squier 40th P bass out of the box, set it up and took it to the hogmanay gig. Absolutely loved it. I had one of those rare moments where the sound was amazing, not quite 100% what I wanted but close. I decided there and then that I'd like to get myself something special and maybe keep the Squier as a back up bass. I only had one prerequisite - it had to be white. After much searching I found a Japanese imported special edition 60s P in white pearl at Fender Fever. Anyway, it arrived today and I have just taken it out of the box and it's even more spectacular than it looked in the pictures. The rosewood board is so deep and rich in colour. It's probably the nicest rosewood board that I've ever seen that wasn't on an actual vintage 60s Fender

Yeah that's annoying. I don't want or need one but £198 with 10% off that would be too good to miss.

I used to have trouble with both hands so I need to have both wrists as straight as possible. It gives me the fear when I see YouTube videos of guys with that really crooked right hand playing position

Ive only just turned 50 😀

I asked warmoth to make me a body between 6-7lbs and they sent me one at 7.5lbs. I need a bass that balances at about 45 degrees, otherwise I spend the entire gig fidgeting to try to get get it to sit at that angle. Luckily I train 3 times a week so 14lbs for a 3 hour wedding isn't too much trouble

I too had a Musicman Sterling HH as my main bass for a while then assembled my Warmoth/Status Jazz bass for a change. It's a heavy maple body, EMG X series pickups, BQC system and a Status jazz neck with Hipshot Ultralites. It comes in at a hefty 14lbs (I can hear some of you groaning at the thought of that 😂 ) A couple of weeks ago I changed the batteries after sound check and it stopped working. Turned out that it was the connection between the batteries in the double battery box so I had to get the back up bass. It's a 2010 Fender Japan '75 reissue with US pickups in old candy apple red with matching headstock. It couldn't be any different to the Warmoth but I absolutely love it. The short version is that both basses are more than capable of replacing my Sterling and it gives me an excuse to post pictures of both of them.

I think that they all come with 5v USB A & C as well, although not in the best position for getting knocked about unless you got a right angled cable and taped it on to secure it

After much debate I decided to go with the Line6 Pod GO wireless. The Helix was just too big knowing some of the venues we play and too expensive to justify. Plus it has a ton of features that I will never use. I also considered the Boss GT1000 & Helix Stomp. I only went with the wireless version as Andertons were doing it for £30 more than the non-wireless version. I plan to spend the next couple of nights getting a sound ready for Friday night. I'm realistic, I don't plan to set up massive, extravagant presets. I only plan to create one preset with octave and flanger using snapshots to turn them on and off. I've got the whole Christmas break to get more involved with it before the Hogmanay gig and I've spent a good few hours so far getting to grips with what it can do in advance of its arrival tomorrow. Thanks for all of the help and advice 👍 I'll let you know how I get on

I'm wondering if I should go with something like a line6 Pod GO. I could set up a basic preset for each bass along with the small number of effects that I will use. It looks relatively simple compared to something like the Helix and I don't have a problem tinkering with it to get the sound right. Plus I don't have to buy a bigger pedal board to potentially fit a sim pedal, overdrive and possibly something like a Boss LS-2 to blend clean and overdriven sounds. And if I have a bigger board then I will be tempted to add more unnecessary pedals.

Ah gotcha 🙂 I suppose that it's a double edged sword - I want a good sound out of the PA but if it sounds terrible through the IEMs then I won't enjoy the gig. I am more inclined to go with the fact that most of the audience won't know the difference between a precision and a Pickenbacker so a little overdrive in my sound wont be that noticable out front. I may be a one-off, most people want to get a sound that is great through the PA but I want to enjoy the gig as well so won't put up with a crap sound in my IEMs as long as it sounds decent through the PA.

The bass could be anything from a graphite neck maple jazz with EMGs with a 3 band preamp to a sire D5 with flats but I would have thought that a decent overdrive with volume and bass/treble controls would be able to be adjusted to suit. If that's not the case then maybe that's where I am going wrong in not choosing a pedal to suit the bass I am using. I use a TC polytune Mini tuner into a Boss OC-5, TC Thunderstorm Flanger and a Behringer BDI21 for distortion when using a plectrum but I can't get it to sound good fingerstyle. This then goes into my MXR M81 preamp. It then goes to the PA from there. I don't use a wireless as I don't see the point when my IEMs are wired. I hadn't thought about a cab sim before - maybe something to give the sound more of a colour than a full blown overdrive. what is an ss/bs? a google search gives me these options 🤔😂 With Boss type pedals I am fine as the name of them tells you exactly what they do most of the time but most boutique pedal manufacturers tend to use bizarre names that give no clue as to what you're getting. This can also be an issue when I am running through the classifieds as I will tend to ignore something if the name of it doesn't tell you what it is and the OP hasn't explained what it does. I'm off to look at cab sims 👍

I'm trying to work out if you're trying to be funny or not. 🤔 I am looking for an overdrive that will sound good to me when I am wearing my IEMs and wanted to know what overdrive pedals other IEM users were using
-
I'm really struggling to get an overdrive pedal that works with IEMs. I think it's because the sound through them is so clear that is the issue. I've only tried a few but I don't want to have to go and spend a fortune on them to get one that works. I just want mild overdrive but what I get is a ton of extra bass with it or a cheap, boxy sound. I know that 500 members could advise 500 different pedals to use if I still used backline but if I could get a list together of the ones that people are using specifically with IEMs then I could start looking more at these.

I use flats for a good number of years so when it came time to go back to rounds, after much research D'Addario were considered the smoothest rounds. I'd have to agree and i used them for a long time. They went up in price at one point so I decided to try Slinkies and I haven't looked back. They gave some extra grunt that the D'addarios were lacking. More upfront and growly. Briefly used pro steel but they were far too bright for me and NYXLs seemed to be lacking everything.

1956 Fender P Bass @ Tom's Guitar Shop
Delberthot replied to madshadows's topic in General Discussion
I've always been a huge fan of the single coil precisions and have owned 2 Japanese Fender '51 reissues, 2 Warmoth '54s and currently have a Sire D5. There's just something about them. If I had the money to buy this one I would gig it. If it breaks you can fix it. After all, how many people still have all of their original parts at 70 years old, never mind a musician's tool? 🤔😂 -
I haven't been bumping the BB1025X that I have for sale on here as if it doesn't sell by the time the Christmas holidays come, I plan to take it apart, clean it up and change all of the pots and jack and gig it every so often. I've owned a few Yamahas and they were all great basses. I'd still love to find a BB5000/BB5000a in original condition. I keep looking at the one at Bass Bros but the changed pickup puts me off

What batteries do you use in your Sterling?
Delberthot replied to Suezee's topic in Accessories and Misc
Are you talking about EBMM Musicman Sterling or Sterling by Musicman? I always remember Duracell being recommended by Musicman so that's what I always used but if they sit really tight in the compartment then it could explain why I had to change the battery box on my 2016 EBMM Sterling as the bass would completely cut out at times. -
Im going to try to get some pics when I take it out tonight. I was going to use my RightOn strap but decided to go with a neoprene one instead

It looks even better in the flesh - under lights it sparkles lots of different colours
