1. Please don't make me put this on eBay BUMP. If the price isn't right - make me an offer!
2. It's with a great deal of reluctance that I'm putting this lovely thing up for sale. Normally in this bit people say "I really like this but I just didn't get on with it" or something similar, but not me. Despite being avowedly a P-bass man I have always hankered after a Gibson Thunderbird. Never managed to justify the cost (and made the rookie error of telling Mrs Omikin how much they were so if I ever did buy one she'd know how much I spent on it...) and the P-bass seemed to fit in with my band's sound quite nicely. I tried the standard Epi which I loved for its shape, even though I knew the neck was a bolt-on and it was too fat and it did have a bit of neck dive with a canvas strap. Then I went for the T-Bird Pro which was an improvement in shape but I couldn't get the hang of the electronics (four knobs and I was never really clear what they all did). So when Epiphone brought out this one - Gibson shape and styling with through neck and actual Gibson pickups I was really excited. I couldn't believe though that the quality would be that good. How could they sell effectively the same model (okay, poly finish rather than nitro and 7-ply neck instead of 9 ply neck but otherwise pretty much the same) for a grand less than the real thing? I couldn't find one anywhere until my local PMT had one in. I A-B'd it with the Gibson model and whilst the Gibson obviously has the heritage I couldn't really justify the extra cash as they felt and sounded the same. I didn't have the £419 they wanted for it either (plus £80 for a hard case) so I kept my eyes peeled on Ebay till I found this. A guy had been bought it by his GF and didn't want it so moved it on. I paid £255 for it (plus postage) and I got a new case from Amazon for £59. I have to confess I also put on the Gibson truss rod cover. Don't judge me. It's never left the house so no-one has seen this. The original Epiphone one is included with the sale. It looked pretty much mint to me and played really smooth out of the box. I lowered the action a little and put some flats on it (La Bella Deep Talking 45 - 105) and fell in love. It was never going to replace the P-bass in my band as I am now wedded to that sound, but it is very very nice indeed. I like it with the neck pup on full and the bridge one slightly rolled off. Lovely growl and a completely different sound from the thud of the P-bass. So why am I selling it? My wife has been made redundant and every penny counts. If I were playing this in the band it would stay, but I'm not and it can't. I am hoping to almost cover my costs here so am asking for [s]£300[/s] £275 (remember these are £419 new, and £80 for a case so you're saving £200!) plus £20 postage if you need it couriered. I am up and down the M1 between Leeds and Dunstable a couple of times a month so meeting up or delivering may be an option too. 3. Oh my word that is breathtaking. Good luck with the sale!
4.
The classic solution for vintage valve amps is the Hughes and Kettner 'Red Box' DI, which plugs into a speaker out, and included cab simulation. Here's the current model, from our Teuton friends ... Red Box ... The older model can be found on an auction site ... Older Red Box ... Personally, I find these to give better results than micing up in 'live' situations, and are very useful for recording, too. Recommended.
Now that's not something I have come across before. I like it! So would I set up the amp and cab as normal then use a second amp lead from the extension speaker output into the redbox?
5. And for clarity - the Bassman is from around 1976 and has no DI socket. Only line in and speaker out.
6. Thanks guys. I think given that if we're supporting and I'm using my rig as opposed to the headliner's then GB and DI would be the most sensible route. As I say, the audience will be unlikely to notice. Save the Bassman for when I also have an 810 and roadies...
7. Apologies if this has already been answered in another thread - I did have a look but couldn't find anything that went into the specifics of my query (or at least nothing I understood...). My preferred setup for tone is my 70's Bassman 100 head and Barefaced 2x12 cab. I know exactly how to dial in my desired tone on that one. However, whenever I have played live the sound guy usually wants to put the bass through a DI box before the amp, so the signal he gets on the desk has none of the lovely valve tone, never mind the EQ I've used. Is there a way round this which is low hassle for the sound guy? I ask as my band is going to be doing a fair few support slots where I think we will have fewer options than the headliners and possibly only very brief soundchecks so I don't want to be a pain in the arse. My other option is to use my Genz Benz Streamliner 900 head which I can get a reasonable approximation of the right tone from (probably indistinguishable for the audience tbh) and then the sound guy should be able to use the onboard DI with no issues, no? I'm beginning to think I have answered my own question here, but your opinions would be much appreciated! Thanks everyone.

9. Just sold an amp and cab to Jon - great guy to deal with. Swift comms, no messing about, and early to the meet too! 100% recommended.
10. Bump for a Monday morning price drop - £200 for the lovely little valve amp, and only £100 for the cab. Come on people!
11. Bargain-tastic price drop! Hope to get these shifted asap! Message me if you're keen!
12. Selling my bass tube screamer as I'm pretty much using clean tone right now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgaoodi33mg £80 inc P&P. Only a couple of years old and in great nick. Any questions let me know!
13. For sale either separately or together for [s]£330[/s]. £300 Ashdown CTM-15 15w valve head (retail price £299) bought new in 2014 from the Great British Bass Lounge. Finally a valve head manageable for small rehearsals and home use. Lots has been written on here about how amazing these heads sound and I can only agree. You can get a lovely warm clean tone, right the way through to a really crunchy overdrive - all at a volume which doesn't rattle the windows. Unless you want it to. Trouble is we're redecorating and renovating most of the house and I have another bass incoming so unfortunately it has to go. [s]£225 plus £10 for courier[/s]. £200 including courier! Happy to meet to pass it on. I live in Leeds and work from Dunstable from time to time so anywhere off the M1 between those destinations would work. Also for sale is my Ashdown MiBass Mi10 250w 4Ohm cab (retail price £199). I bought this new in 2014 from PMT. Tremendous little cab which works wonderfully with the CTM-15 and looks the part as a mini stack with it. I have also used this cab with my Fender Bassman 100 and my Streamliner 900 with great results. I haven't used it at anything approaching gig volume - just for home use and small practices (volume knob on the bigger amps not much past 2) so I can't comment on whether it would cope with a pub gig. It would be more than adequate for acoustic stuff or rehearsal though. [s]£125 plus £15 for courier, or meet up as above[/s]. £100 including courier! Not looking at any trades, I'm afraid. Hope the above gives you enough info but any questions please just ask. Both items are in great condition as they're about a year old and haven't had a lot of use. I also have a Ibanez Bass Tube Screamer for sale in the effects forum so have a butchers there too...
14. If I didn't already have a US P in sunburst / maple I would be all over this. Great bass and someone is going to get one hell of a bargain. GLWTS!
15. I think the £3,700 refers to the 12-string guitar at the top of the article. £1,950 is the RRP for these basses by the looks of things.
16. I have GAS for a road worn Jazz at the moment. I don't know why. I had it before and it passed but I have it again now. Just about to move house so the timing isn't great.
