1.
No worries, MB1 is selling a 'ray copy for around £125 I think.
He wont post the blasted thing though!!
2.
There's always my OLP Tony Levin in the for sale section . OLPs were great Stingray style basses, but to me, not comparable to Musicman basses. Out of the box, mine played great, lots of thump, but lacking a little top end sparkle. Very different in tone to my MM 'ray. The EQ was pretty poor on mine, although I've heard lots of people who really liked theirs. I changed both the pickup and the EQ for the best money can buy IMO, really as a project, and it's turned out very well, but at a price. Think of it as a Stingray shaped bass, that has a personality of it's own, and your about there. Not a Musicman, but very nice in it's own right. OLPs play well, look great, and in many cases sound great too, I think they're well worth the money for a nice one.
I had spotted yours, but its beyond my budget at the moment unfortunately. Unless I can make a very hard desicion by selling some of my camera equipment, Im looking at around £150 max. Its down to what I want more. My photography that I have done for 10 years or bass that I have been doing for 4 weeks!
3. I have a desire to get a Musicman style bass, I really like the look of them. A real one is way out of my league, so I have been mooching around and discovered what is described as a Musicman Ernieball OLP Stingray in my home town. Now, I know Musicman is the real make, and this particualr bass is marked OLP on the headstock. Is Ernie Ball the owners/makers of Musicman then, as Im confused where they come into the picture. On another note, how are they rated? All the reveiws I can find rate them well, but I'd like some real world views on how they are. What the neck like, is it thin/thick? fast/slow? I really love my 5 string Dean, but Im just not getting the tone I want out of it. If I was playing metal (which is my main genre of choice to listen to) It would be great, but I dont really wanna play that, I wann play cleaner and funkier stuff. Im struggling getting the clean tone I want out of the Dean. I dont know if its me, or the amp or what. I'd love to learn a bit of slap, so how do the OLP's cope with that? Sorry for all the newbie questions, but Im very short on cash and dont want to buy something I later regrett.
4. Still no postage?
5. I know what you mean. I bought a 5 string 3 weeks ago as my first bass and then got given a 4 string 2 weeks later. The 4 string does feel easier to play, but Im determined to learn on the 5, as I know in the long run it will be benificial. Just stick at it! In the future, you'll be glad you can play a 5 and a 4, rather than having to relearn again to play a 5.
6. I'd bite your arm off for this if you could post!
7. Its a lovely looking bass, shame its out of my price range as Im only down the road.
8. Awesome kits for the money. I had a M Birch in purple, but had to sell when I moved house. Great sounding toms, even with the stock heads, and the build quality is excellent. Have a late night bump!
9. I loved the "rides" album, and a few songs off the others, will give the new stuff a listen too!
10. I have spotted one going cheap near me. Anyone had/have one. What are they like, are they beginner or mid range? Might have a punt at it if its worth going for and I can find some money., what sort of price should it be? Goddamn this GAS. I have spent so much money since I joined this forum!! Im thinking about selling my camera equipment to help pay for some more stuff!
11. Rough price for the fretless? I dont like making offers!
12. Same here, I've been having withdrawl symptoms!
13. I think mine would have to be No Doubt from the first album to Tragic Kingdom, so the 1990-1997 era. I just cant get enough of Tony Kanal's funky basslines and I'd love to be in a band playing stuff like that.
14. Also, am I right in thinking you can play direct through this with just headphones for silent practice?
15. I really want one of theset, but I only have £80 in my bank account and I have 2 more Osteopath apointments to pay for at £35 a pop. Damn money! (or lack of)
16. I saw some of your set at Bloodstock in August. Great stuff and congrats on the endorsement!
17.
+1 A lot of people associate The Misfits with Halloween so something like Die Die My Darling or otherwise?
Or play the song Halloween by The Misfits!
18. Another one for Tony Kanal from No Doubt. Even years ago before I ever though I'd touch a bass, I always listened to him and wished I could play some of the lines he does, especially "Different People" Im making it my goal to learn that song, dont care how long it takes. Some of the songs from the lesser known first 2 albums are awesome too.
19. Hows this?? and lots more here.. yamaha bass Needs a strip down and clean methinks!
20. Sounds like a challenge!! Hold tight... I shall return!!
21. Cool, glad to see its better regarded than I was expecting. The buzzing is definetley electrical, so I give it all a good clean up. Mine is gloss black with horrible black plastic knobs. That white one looks a lot smarter with the chrome hardware. Not bad for a freebie then!
22. I've just been given one of these for free. Its a bit knocked about and has new machine heads, but seems nice enough. Easy to play, easier than the Dean 5 string I have. There is a bad crackle coming from somewhere though, Im guessing the pickups? Anyone had one/got one. Im guessing it was an entry level guitar from the early 90s? Looks identical to the cheap Encore my brother bought in the mid 90's, probably made in the same factory!

Heh, Im a sucker for a bit of ass kissing... So go ahead.. Only bought a few things so far, but I've only been on the forum 2 weeks! 24. If its still around in a week or two, I'll def. have it, but I have spent a fortune this last 2 weeks. Just checked my bank balance, which was a very bad idea!
