1. Thats been on ebay recently, reached about £180 the first time and was back up again the other day. Seems to have gone now though.
2.
Glad thats settled. It's the bloody drummer, isn't it ?
Hmm, Im not the best drummer in the world, but I really cant see why that intro would be hard. All you are doing is missing a snare beat for the first few bars before the song kicks in and replacing it with an accented hihat. Haven't got time now as off to a wedding, but Im gonna try playing it later on me drums, as Im doing it spot on "air drumming" on the first listen. Will try the bass too if I can find the tab. (Yes I know I need to learn to read music)
3.
Oh sorry, TRadford. My post obviously came over as a bit snide. That wasn't the intention What I was meaning to do was to direct this one to that one to consolidate the two as the same ground was being covered simultaneously. I realise that the same topics get covered on a regular basis, and sometimes by the same people (guilty!) but in this case I was concerned that your thread would not get any contributions as lots of people had already written their bit this week on the other one. Best Wishes OG
No worries! As for the drummer/rythmn thing. At the moment I guess it to early to tell. When I was trying to play a song earlier I was struggling with the rythmn. It was a sort of triplet feel. Despite knowing the song by heart on drums, and knowing the rythmn. I have never had formal drum lessons, I learnt by ear and by playing along with my brother on guitar, so I was never really tuned into a bass line, I followed a rythmn guitar all the time. This means I have tuned my ears to hear the rythmn guitar rather than bass, which most of the time is ok as it usually follows the bassline anyway, but sometimes it can throw you a little bit. Its early days yet, and Im really enjoying learning these songs, simple as they are. I was getting a bit fed up with my drumming, I was stuck in a rut, and picking up a bass has not only given me a challenge to pass the time while Im off work, but I have noticed I am also enjoying playing the drums more for the short amount of time I can actually put up with the pain! Oh and how long does it take for your fingers to get used to strings!! They are really sore!
4. Never mind eh? Sorry for showing an interest.. As a well established member on a drum forum for over 5 years with over 2500 posts, its something that happens. I dont look at every single post in all the forums just in case something similar has been posted. You will always get the same sort of posts over and over.. If you didnt, this and every other forum would have died a long time ago.
5. I got my first bass last week and have just started learning, and I wondered how some of you got started. Why, and what was the first thing you learnt. Was it with the intention of joining a band? or just for fun? Did you get a teacher straight away or just figure things out yourself in the bedroom? This week, I have so far from tab learnt the bass lines to some of my favourite songs and some of those which I thought would be easy to learn. I can now play.... Roots Bloody Roots by Sepultura. All the small things by Blink-182 Adams Song by Blink-182 The first half of Greener Pastures by No Doubt, just started this one today, so still need time to get the rest of it learnt. I still need a quick glance at the tabs every now and then, but I think I have most of them down now. Not hard songs I know, but considering I hadnt ever properly played a bass before, I dont think thats to shabby!
6.
No mate, probably another Zappa fan with fantastic taste in screen names!!
Yeah must have been! Well good, cos he was a trolling cock!
7.
Alright babs!
Did you used to post on the Mike Dolbear drum forum by any chance? You have a strangely familar name!
8.
A thicket, no sorry that's drummers.
I resent that!
9. For a group of 10 or less, I would suggest A Finger. As for a collective, hmm not sure
10.
Steal your brother's from the garage!
If I could lift it up I would!! Im also a bit worried about it blowing my house up, what with being out there for 10+years. Its not the driest, cleanest garage in the world!
11. Thanks man, I missed out on it anyway, so no loss. All hail the new flesh!
12. I'd be interested maybe if you can post. Will PM
13. Need a small practice amp just to doodle in the house with whilst im learning. Saw this at a good price and would like some feedback (not from the amp hopefully) Seems to be well spec'd and you can add a cab to it if needs be. My brother used to use a laney bass amp and it always seemed quite nice. I think its still in my parents garage somewere, probably not too healthy after being there for over 10 years mind. Any comments??
14. Very temtping, but I dont have an amp yet (borrowing one!) and funds are a bit tight after buying the bass.. Damn.
15.
If it's your first bass, awesomely good idea to start on a 5. Moving from 4 to 5 once I'd been playing a while was a pain in the balls. Ultimately totally worth it, of course, but starting on a 5 will save you a bit of re-learning time Although of course one could say the same about starting on a 6 in case you want to play a 6 one day. Aaaargh!
Exacty my thinking, and its already come in usefull. So far all of the songs I have looked at tab to play have been played on 5 strings, so I can now play one of my favorite ever songs, as it should be played on 5 strings!
16. Cracking chap, delivered a bass to my house with an hours notice. Great bass in great condition as described.
17. Just had my first bass hand delivered to my door by Nugget (Dave). Its a stunner, has more strings than I know what to do with, but in time hopefully! Its a Dean Rhaposdy 5 stringer, black quilt maple. Mmm nice.. Thanks very much Dave, you are a star, wasnt expecting to get a bass so quick!
18. Is this still availible??
19. Goddammit. The Ibanez was bought whilst I was outside chatting to the bloke who delivers our firewood logs. I knew that would happen... Next choice then...
20. Ah ok, so it has like two knobs on one then?
21. Thanks for that, I think I'll go with the Ibanez then, unless I see something else in the next half hour or so!
22. Awesome, thanks!
23. Ibanez is looking good them. The only thing I forgot to mention, the Ibanez Im looking at only has 3 knobs, wheras a lot of other ones I have seen on online shops have 4. Is this something to be concerned about or is the 4 knob just a newer model? Also is the 3 knob one active or passive?, I cant seem to find it anywhere.
24. Im about to buy a bass, but Im not sure which to go for, its between these.. Vintage 800BL brand new £99 + £15 p&p Ibanez SR300 DX used £125 posted YAMAHA RBX374 used with chip on body £150 + £11 p&p Dean Rhapsody 5 string used for sale on this fourm £150 Im just a beginner, but fed up of the crappy unbrabded bass Im borrowing from a friend. I want something that I can resell if it turns out I cant play. I cant go to a shop to try any out at the moment as Im housebound My music styles are rock/metal, but as Im learning Ill play anything I think I can learn. Any others to chuck into the mix??
25. Must be something in the water. I joined today and am also in Gloucester!
